Below I explain these photos and the differences between DBTY necklaces.

OK, so if you want to know how the story started, here is my BGD experience:
http://forum.purseblog.com/the-jewelry-box/brian-gavin-dbty-arrived-pics-658084.html
I have now bought or at least seen IRL all three of the major DBTY style necklaces talked about on here. Tiffany's, BGD, and Blue nile's.

My Blue nile necklace arrived today. First a big shout out to ame for helping me to pick on kick a$$ diamond. Holy sparkler!
It's a 0.32 H Vs2 GIA certified and inscribed set in white gold.
I'd like to start out by saying this necklace turns out to be NOTHING like T's and BGD. Those two are pretty much identical..this is entirely different.
First the bad...holy crappy workmanship. In the first picture you will see a closeup of the bezel. See how uneven it looks? That's not reflections of lights and darkness making the bezel look weird, it actually is weird. There are lots of flat spots on it. Very uneven, not rounded or smooth. Granted this can only be seen with a 10x loop or with my Macro lens and some zooming in.

Second, the chain. I've had lots of pm's about the chain. The BN chain is actually bigger than BGD and T's. It's still delicate and dainty, but it's definitely different. The loops are all a bit larger and rounder than BGD and T's. I can see why some people might not initially like the chain because when you set it down or are holding it in your hand, it's very uneven looking. See second picture attachment. But once it's on it actually lays perfectly fine. This BN necklace also has a really nice lobster clasp that I prefer to BGD and T's.

Third the bezel setting itself. This is actually more of a basket setting..sorta. It is not just a thin loop of metal around the diamond like T's and BGD. BUT this has a HUGE plus..at least for me. In the hour or so I wore the T's around, and the two days I wore the BGD I got REALLY sick of being poked by the culet of the diamond. This was especially bad because it's scarf season, but even my coat or whatever was pushing it in to me. I did not like that. I guess I have picky sensitive skin. I'm definitely not one of those "fashion is pain" people.
More about the bezel. Picture three shows it, but it's hard to explain. It is unique and different. There is the metal around the outside of the diamond like T and BGD, and then there is 4 little strips of metal that head at an angle following the pavilion toward the culet and then there is a smaller ring of metal. So the bezel setting is tapered in so to speak. It does not look boxy or show much at all IRL. from straight on it looks just like T's DBTY.

Another difference is T and BGD's chain attached right to the loop on the bezel. The BN has an extra larger loop connecting the two. See picture 4.
Also I should mention the "ears". It was the ears that actually kept me away from BN originally. Turns out they are smaller and nicer than BGD's.
This is just a totally different bird than Tiffany's DBTY or Brian Gavins fixed bezel pendant DBTY.

My outtake? I'm keeping this one!!! I might send it back to blue nile and make them do the bezel better, or I might just leave it on forever. So why and I keeping this one? Because of the poke prevention. This BN one is so comfortable to wear. It does not flip or face down at all. I love it. The diamond is spectacular....the prettiest one I own (and to think I was always afraid of 55% table diamonds..thanks again ame!!!!).

I guess it comes down to priorities. If you want the name and resale-ability, and don't want to worry about picking out a perfect stone, then go Tiffany's. If you want great craftsmanship and a better price, and/or if you want the white or rose gold, go BGD. But if you want to be able to pick out your own certified stone, and don't want to be "poked" all the time, BN is a great option.

Price wise we all know Tiffany's is the most, but if you read my last thread listed above, then you will see that BGD's 0.16 was definitely smaller than Tiffany's 0.12. I don't think this is BGD's fault. BGD's stone truly did measure at 0.16. Tiffany's are just larger. I know this doesn't make sense, so I'm not going to try and explain it. So if you like Tiffany's YG 0.14, just save yourself a lot of head ache and get that one..lol. If you are wanting something larger but more affordable and/or in white gold, look into BGD and BN. There are definite differences, and only you can decide which is most important to you.

Hope that helps some of you!

It's BEAUTIFUL on you!!!! And your neck is so long and elegant. Even though the workmanship is a little shoddy, I think the money saved is well worth it! You have done it for me; I am getting a BN DIY pendant! Thanks for the pics and great review!!

It's very pretty! I've been considering a solitaire too, but the POKE factor is definitely an issue for me. I think you have helped me make a decision. :)

I was JUST gonna email you about this!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SO glad you love the stone!!!! Ill have to check out that bezel. It sucks that they didn't do that great a job but at least it's not eye visible without some magnification.

WOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

:yahoo:

The reason I'm a photographer is it keeps me safely BEHIND the camera, but I did promise someone a shot with head included. I agree figuring out size can be hard with just a neck shot. For example AntiqueShoppers 0.14 YG Tiffany's looks HUGE. Granted the Tiffany's 0.14 is a good size, but AntiqueShoppers looks as large as any picture I could get with my 0.32.

So here is the full face one, please keep in mind I am not very good at taking pictures of myself..lol. I have trouble holding 7 lbs of camera and lens straight out away from my body. I tried the camera on the shoulder in the mirror thing, it just didn't catch the necklace very well that way. So while this doesn't showcase the necklace well, hopefully it helps with size gauging:

Congrats on your new necklace! It looks beautiful on you and has a real presence.

I have been contemplating a similar carat weight and quality also from Blue Nile... your pictures are giving me serious envy!

I hope you enjoy it for many years to come :smile1:

That necklace is gorgeous, and it fits you great! I like your hat also. I'm a casual girl like that myself lol. That necklace is a great choice, because it can be dressed up or down.

Congrats; enjoy it!

It is! Your color palette needs lots o purple. I always wear green or blue or teal. It just looks good on me, my closet is pathetic and boring. I have ammassed a ridiculous cardigan collection.

I love your necklace! It is perfect on you! Congratulations! Btw- I agree with everyone, purple is totally your color! :D
