I purchased a gorgeous Coach Patent Leather handbag in taupe several years ago; I had it stored away for several months as I wanted to save it and not over use it. I took it out one day and was shocked to find a dark purplish mark on it about the size of a nickle and some other minor stains in the same dark purplish-dark blue color...I was certain it was an ink stain from a leaky pen...but the strange thing is the lining was completely unstained! I was upset because this was my fav handbag at the time...tried to remove the stains but the wouldn't budge! Called leather cleaners and asked their advice..they said it's not going to come out. The bottom line is I believe this is some kind of manufacturing flaw with the patent leather...it's deep within the Patent Leather...not on the surface! It's not ink and I don't believe anything "rubbed off" on the handbag. Will never buy another patent leather item from Coach ever again! Ruined a gorgeous classic style handbag!Sorry I didn't post a picture previously. But this is what I am talking about. I forgot to mention before that the front has "almost" the same issue. It looks like it's "bubbling". Is this maybe what happened to the back? Did it bubble first and then turn black? (sorry the picture quality isn't crytal clear... but the front bubbling I am talking about is on the second picture on the first top left C).
I had the plum patent Sophia. Luckily this never happened to me. I would have freaked too! I wonder if it only happens in certain conditions, like cold or humidity.I know I'm late to this but thought I'd share a Coach experience. I had a number of Madison bags in the Plum Patent from a few years ago. One was stored in a dust bag in my closet for a few months and, when I took it out to use it, I saw it had black marks all over it. Now, I am neurotic with my bags and, like others in this thread, these marks were IN the patent leather, not on it. Obviously, I freaked. My husband took the bag and actually worked the marks out by pushing gently on the surface of the patent leather. Almost like smoothing out bubbles from those screen protectors that we use on our smart phones and tablets. It worked like a charm and all black marks were gone. It does appear to be something in the patent leather process but once I knew how to get rid of the marks they didn't almost give me a heart attack again. Hope someone finds this interesting or helpful.
You got me worried! I have a Chelsea patent embossed wallet I've never used. I just checked it and it still looks perfect. So strange! I have the red patent leather Chelsea accordion zip wallet. Same thing, there are these little black marks on it that I swear were not there before. They look like they are under the shiny finish, not on top. Very bizarre.
