There was a BoF article a couple of days ago about how insanely sophisticated this game is getting. Basically, as someone posted above, an authentic item is purchased and multiple copies are made that are near EXACT. Of course they are either sold OR actually "returned" to the retailer who sold them and inadvertently sold to someone else. So yeah there's a real receipt, and a seemingly authentic item. It's becoming less "mass copied" and more "per item" in such detail that even vendors can't tell. I looked at her eBay, and it's interesting because some of the H items are on the production list for the IG of superhermes_studio, which touts getting its leather from the same supplier as Hermes, and makes 1:1 custom "Hermes" items including the mauve sylvestre C18 this gal has posted on eBay. I stumbled upon them because actually ******** credited them with the new Spring H leather colors in her blog! The lines are getting soooooo blurred.

So sorry this happened Karenallen. They’re getting sophisticated. So scary they can return the super fakes in the place of the real item. Sadly this will make it harder on fans of the brand. I’m sure Chanel would want to know more to prevent this happening to their clothing...

To the OP, sorry to hear that this happened to you. I was duped before too. So I learned my lesson well---I only buy from the boutique itself since that incident. If I could not buy it from the boutique itself for whatever reason, I just pass or pick something else that I equally like. I will not risk it again. Too many super fakes out there! Just not worth it. Just my opinion. Anyway, may justice be served.

Thanks for this information! What is B of F? I’d love to read the article.

I purchased a SS19 jacket from a woman who lives in NYC who I thought was trustworthy. She provided me with the original Saks receipt from the 5th Ave store. I had tried the jacket in the boutique, and had no doubt it was authentic. However, when I decided to consign it with The Real Real, they rejected it as "inferior quality." I thought they were just mistaken, so I sent it to another consignment. They provided me with a detailed side by side comparison with an authentic jacket, because the owner of consignment happened to own this jacket herself, which she had purchased at the boutique.

* Tweed is different. The authentic version has more details with iridescent parts.
* Material and quality of the satin bows are different
* Care tags - wrong fonts, also the copy jacket is missing a portion of material (6% cotton), so the list doesn't total 100%
* Chains are different - the copy is smaller and a different shade of gold
* Construction of jacket - squares don't line up and the hems don't end where they should be (full squares)
* Zippers and embellishment are nearly identical but there are slight difference in person, zipper of copy jacket is shinier and a different shade of gold
* Lining colour is brighter white on copy jacket

The woman Wenli Fei sells on eBay as "minimaldelux." Previously her eBay name was "feiwenli287453343." She has several Chanel items currently listed. She has a collaborator named Weu Qiang, It is disheartening that there are such close copies out there, and counterfeit traffickers like these two.

I have reported these people to Chanel fraud prevention department as well as the Saks the receipt was from, and they will be launching an investigation of these people. PayPal is also launching an internal investigation.

I'm posting this as a warning that despite being a frequent Chanel shopper very familiar with the brand, I was taken by these traffickers. Just because someone provides a receipt does not mean the jacket is authentic, sadly. I am devastated to think I have contributed to funding illegal activity. I'm only shopping at boutiques from here out.

The problem with receipts is that even if they are real, you do not know if the item is, then receipts are quite easily replicated, if one of the scammers buys one real item and has it copied a few times, they will have the receipt also copied, which is a lot easier done than a convincing copy.

This is certainly an eye opener for me. I used to think that the more intricate items will not be faked but it seems the game has changed. I suspect some resellers rely on the availability of receipts to authenticate an item but as a poster pointed out even receipts can be faked or the real one copied many times. I have always wondered why some resellers have so many newly released items and selling them for half the retail price. Why would so many people buy branded items and sell them through resellers at a loss. Whilst I don't normally buy from resellers I am now more certain than ever that it's best to buy from boutiques for peace of mind.

Gosh, this is getting worse and worse. I'm so sorry this happened to you OP.

I would've never known that was a fake. Unless you do the side by side, most people probably wouldn't be able to tell. I've been thinking about a few preloved, discontinued items and after reading so many cases of fakes on here, it's not worth the risk at all. Thank you and other posters for bringing more awareness to this.

I sincerely hope you get your money back, and that some law enforcement really takes action against these frauds.

I used to buy from an outlet where they got mainly Prada that was not this season, since I was always more interested in what works for me than if it is this season and the latest, went there a lot, and she said for the prices some shops sell it (that was mainly eBay, we're going back maybe 20 years before VC and such) she couldn't even buy it far less sell it and if something seems to good to be true... I didn't heed her warning and fell for the temptation, I think 500 for a "Prada bag" the time before snipers, so waiting up half of the night... The pictures looked 100% authentic, what arrived had "Made in China" in it, quality really shoddy, didn't look much like the original item, even all the fonds wrong. Seller went "Send it back and if I am convinced it is a fake, I will tell you who my supplier is, you can take it up with him then" - I thought if I send it back, he can claim I switched, plus I had a sales contract with him and not his supplier, so I went to a lawyer to get my money back, and let the police know about counterfeits, they recommended to report this to the German customs and tax authorities (I was living in Germany then). Eventually got my money back and he had to pay the legal fees and my lawyer, a few months later somebody from customs and taxes rang me, apparently they investigated and found out that while he claimed to be unemployed, he used bank accounts of other people and they had several accounts, always keeping it under 5K a month, at that time getting regularly more than 5K a month into an account would have flagged tax, which they knew, but in the 6 months they investigated him, he had a turnover of over 2.5 million, different eBay accounts (it was before they demanded strict authentication for sellers) and was a member of a gang who did this big style, needless to say, they never paid tax, import duties and all that and it was quite a large network of people, the guy hinted that they might be involved in other criminal activity.

The items that were shown in the listings were all real, just what you got in the end wasn't. I only knew one of his accounts, the one I fell for, but he had a surprisingly high feedback rating, I'm still puzzled if people didn't know they were fakes or were just happy to have a fake?
