Have any of you used anything to clean or maintain your vintage bags? I am thinking of buying some sort of leather conditioner for mine but I'm not sure what to get as I've never used a product on a bag.

Hi, Skip. I've read through the leather care threads in quite a few of the designer and brand forums. Many people like Apple Garde products, and leather protectants and care products by Wilson.

The most informative thread IMO is The Care and Feeding of Linea Pelle anchored by a tPF member named Stormy Heart, who is a leather worker and offers great tips for dealing with all kinds of leather problems. She recommends these products -- this link is to their kits. I've purchased the kit for nubuck/suede and am please with the results after using it according to directions:

Here's my vintage Bally :)

Its surprisingly very durable and low maintenance. Maybe that's why it still looks so good after 8+ years of storage in the attic.

Wow, that's a gorgeous bag, yuurei! Take it out and use it again!

It surprises me that such well made and expensive bags don't command more in the used market. There are still real values when buying used Bally handbags that are in mint condition. The brand is well known in Europe and in some circles, but not as well recognized in the US. So those of you that recognize the value should be able to score some great used pieces!

I got my Bally bags out for a photo shoot today. Most are older, but each is very classy. The brown bag was my first purchase, probably in 1982-1985.

Wow all those vintage Ballys are stunning and I cannot believe what you paid for them! Bally is famous for superb quality hence they are quite pricey. In Europe it is worth going to their end of season sales, their shoes are awesome too. I guess those vintage bags say it all, maybe a Bally is in order for me, those vintage bags look awesome like new really. Congratulations ladies!

Here they are! Black one was $15 and brown one was $25. I was pleasantly surprised at how chic they look on with the right outfit. They do have some nice stuff on their site! I would love to see your evening bag if you get a chance!

my mom has one very similar to your brown one! hers is all black leather though, but in incredible condition as she basically never used it when she first bought it. are Bally bags very expensive?

I remember admiring each of those bags when they were new at Nordstrom or perhaps I. Magnin in San Francisco. They were very pricey! I had to limit my purchases to one good bag per year, and only bought during sales. I wore Bally shoes, also very expensive, but had to limit my spending on those as well. Loved the incredible quality -- you can see that it speaks for itself and ensures that the bags remain timeless.

Gorgeous bags ladies. Here's mine ( click pic to enlarge)

I want one like this! Even though I'm retired in paradise and have no need for a beautiful new vintage bag! I love Bally's distinctive quilting -- plus the structure and wonderful color of your bag.

the leather on the one my mom has is great though

I'll bet your mom would be happy to help you begin your collection!

Me! I found two vintage ballys at a thrift store. I've been checking them out on ebay ever since just because they're so well made and I'm a sucker for anything vintage! I have seen some quilted bally bags on ebay and they looked lovely.
I love your bags! And you found them at such a great price! Where is this thrift shop?

Thanks! It was Goodwill! Someone must have unloaded their collection because there was also a navy one that I didn't get. I had no idea about Bally until then and came home and did my research and now I'm always on the lookout. I'm mainly into the vintage bags. I would LOVE to find one in the quilted leather.
