I just realized that Gvasalia is from Georgia, the former Soviet Republic.

That explains the bright colors, flower print and everything I've always disliked about about Russian "fashion." Now it all makes sense. Even the skating bag is reminiscent of the Russian "chavs" that think the epitome of high fashion is an Adidas track suit. Those skating bags would be their Holy Grail.

Oh, and before anyone takes offense, I'm Russian.

:D i reckon, the only one to take the offense would be Gvasalia, but he's not around ;)
Because the most disliked thing among Georgians is comparison with Russians
just saying.....

ROFL.... that is true :biggrin:
.
At the same time, they sure did influence his designs. He even uses a Russian stylist for Vetements. :lol::lol:

Third gen Canadian, Russian ancestry both sides of the family (sadly, first gen not able to speak the language :crybaby:). Well, aside from a few choice swear words...

Yeah I definitely saw the Russian influence with his own brand even before he started at Balenciaga. I would definitely credit him with the whole track suit/sportswear trend going on right now. I'm a huge fan of it lol!! Another designer that follows his same aesthetic is Gosha Rubchinskiy (spelling?) he is Russian and his designs are heavily influenced by Russian fashion as well.

Ooops..:lol::lol:

Don't get me wrong, his designs are way beyond the usual, mismatched textures, and colors that many of my people favor. Still, the influence is definitely there. Including putting the brand name on many of his pieces <cringe>.

I definitely see this influence, too, and imo it's not bad at all, the whole bunch of high and low end brands at some points of time were inspired by this or that culture and again imo only serves them good, giving the customers wide choice and variety, just one tiny and very personal thing - all is good in moderation, and again imo Demna is guilty in a bit overdoing .... but, for every each his own ;)
