Balenciaga city bag dilemma

So my darling friend attended a sample sale in London last week and i asked her if there were any Balenciaga/Bottega Venetta bags to send me a photo before purchasing on my behalf.

My friend did not contact me prior and she bought the Black City Classic for 50% off it is currently sold on net-a-poter, balenciagia website etc for double what I paid.

This bag has always been on my wish list but I was surprised that she went ahead and bought it without checking but I do like the bag. Now a few other girlfriends are saying the bag is outdated and will be discontinued soon but my argument is that is is still a classic and with 50% off a black designer bag that is a win in my eyes as I can get alot of wear out of it.

Anyway they have kinda put a spanner in the works for me and now I thinking my friend should have checked with me first prior to purchasing on my behalf but then another part of me is grateful she got in the first place at such a great price.

Would you be content with this purchase? Is there any ideas if the city bag will be discontinued?

I would be THRILLED with this purchase. The city is a long standing classic moto bag. You got it at a great price. While there are always rumours of them being discontinued, I take them with a grain of salt. Also, even if it is, in my mind that will just make your bag more valuable.

Here is my thinking - you wanted it, you asked your friend to look for it, if she had called you, you would have said “yes, buy it!” because your concerns have only been raised by your friends after the fact. I say, thank your friend for looking out for you and love that bag to pieces. What a great deal.

i would suspect someone got not happy for you, but very gealous...
this is a classic and iconic bag, for almost 2 decades, and it's not gonna be discontinued as per all SAs i know and met, be it in my local few boutiques, or quite a few across Italy and France.
I'd thank your friend, and enjoy your gorgeous beautiful bag!

Why care what your friends say? Be confident in your choices. If you like the bag that's all that counts, on trend makes very little difference to me personally.

I’d personally be over the moon. Weird she didn’t ask but she clearly thought you’d love and was possibly rushed into making a decision. Enjoy it! Who cares what others think.

I think it's either it was very hectic (black city 50%!!!) situation at that time, or your friend thought she will 'adopt' the bag if you decided not wanting it (but who will refuse black city 50% discount???). In any case, I wont make a big fuss over your friend not calling you.

And I dont think a light, good quality and practical black bag will ever be out of trend.

Enjoy your bag! it looks like small city? Thats the best size for me.
