There are definitely a select few bags that I'm sad I passed on in my time of buying luxury bags or bags that I regretted buying... BUT...

In light of a recent dilemma I had on whether or not to buy the 22P Chanel Iridescent Green (pic #1 below) over in the 2022 Resolution thread, I would love to hear what bags you love(d), but you're glad you ended up passing on - tell us why you are glad you passed and please feel free to share photos :)

A few others that fall into this category for me:
  • Dior Book Tote in the grey toile de jouy (Pic #2) - SO beautiful but I really need shoulder straps for a tote and I couldn't fit this comfortably under my arm
  • Chanel 21k Lilac Classic Flap (Pic #3) - this color was absolute perfection but I have NOTHING it would match with
  • Chanel 22C grey mini (Pic #4) - this one was SO TOUGH to pass on because I love a green-leaning grey, but I think this color looks best in a more casual style with grained leather...still waiting for that perfect one
  • Bottega Veneta Point bag in Mallard (Pic #5) - another "I fell in love with the color but..." - I didn't truly love the bag shape (holding out for my malachite B30!!)
  • Celine Cabas Phantom Bi-Color Dune/Purple (Pic #6) - I had this bag in my cart for a good couple months and still really love it, but I know I need a more structured tote as I use totes to carry my laptop
  • Chanel 19 20C Dark Beige (Pic #7) - I actually ended up buying a 19 bag in 20C blue ( I would have had to get the dark beige from a reseller and didn't want to pay a premium) and subsequently sold it as the style just didn't work for me (contradictory to other opinions, I found the shoulder strap uncomfortable and the thick chain wasn't comfortable to wear in the crook of my elbow)
  • Louis Vuitton Teddy Neverfull (Pic #8) - this is a "for the lifestyle I want but don't have" desire. I pictured myself lugging this on the plane to my cold-weather ski vacation (have never skied in my life, pretty much exclusively vacation to warm places)
  • Alexander McQueen croc embossed knuckle clutch (Pic #9) - another "for the lifestyle I want but don't have." I've always loved the edginess of the skulls but I would not get much wear out of this
I'm sure there are PLENTY more and I'll return as I think of them, but I'd love to hear from everyone else!

Thank you for starting this thread @ItsPurseonal. I feel like i should notes on some of your observations when I second guess any decison to pass (particularly your comments on the dior and the 19)

I am happy I passed on:
BV cabat small (still too big and unstructured for me)
BV knot (too small and too structured for me)
BV pouch (limited usage)
Hermes touch ostrich B30, some other H offers
chanel CF seasonal with camellias printed on it; chanel 19 ( too slouchy and puffy); chanel boy (too boxy)
delvaux (Magritte collection: it’s too big; annoying buckle; and, possibly too much of a statement)
moynat (camo matte alligator rejane, wrong color way and the rejane)
dior (I’ve passed on many diors in a variety of sizes, styles, skins, fabrics)

but, my list of regrets that I passed is far longer lol

I’ll play -

I also thought hard about the BV Point in mallard because I adored the color, but the small version holds such a ridiculously small amount for its overall size.

Mini Lady Dior - this one is such a work of art but so far I still find the LD too noisy. And I wouldn’t wear this enough.

Chanel velvet barrel bag - because look how cute it is! But, $4300 for a velvet bag is a bad call.

Chanel envelope bag, because it looks like a lovely color and I liked the shape. But the straps would pull at the edges of the flap over time, so it was a no.

Chanel velvet CC clutch - seduced by an Instagram photo but came to my senses.

Chanel raspberry red jumbo - if this bag looked like it does in this photo I’d have kept it, but it was more fushcia in real life. I still look at this pic and sigh though.

Lol we were supposed to add pics  my pics are mainly dior. Delvaux bag (4th pic). LD art (sixth pic -way too heavy)
eighth pic is of an H bench (happy we didnt buy one yet bc we haven’t been able to start gut renovations on the apt it’s meant for
ninth pic, the camo rejane
last pic : the bag I most regret not getting : Bulgari Mary Katranzou

it makes me feel beyond happy, almost virtuous to pass on a lovely bag, like saying no thank you to a glorious dessert
it also makes me better able to hone what I really want:
an ostrich H B, not a dior
a velvet or art dior, like #6, that is smaller and lighter with black hw
velvet faux croc book tote, blue with red trim (dior did not make it in size small, but SA said I can order one)
a petite Magritte delvaux
a camo print matte alligator in the blue colorway (sold out)

I need to channel this energy!!! Feeling HAPPY to pass on a lovely bag for good reason! I am impressed you passed on those Dior bags but your rationale makes so much sense

I think we would be dangerous shopping partners because I love all of these! But I do agree with your rationale - the "seduced by an Instagram photo but came to my senses" really hit home for me lol

Thank you for sharing! Why are you glad you passed on the ostrich Alma? Beautiful! I don't think I'd get the wear out of it but it's one I can definitely appreciate from afar
Mainly because the MM size is too big for my current needs and I'm not as into monochrome / neutral bags anymore. Back when I was interested in that size, I was just out of high school so I still carried lots of things to class. It's incredible that it was only (7000 CAD) 5600 USD back in 2010...prices sure have jumped since.

Thank you so much for starting this thread! I don’t have photos at the ready, but I’m glad to have passed on the following (and I‘ll tell you why).

(1) LV Alma BB: Strap is waaay too short for crossbody. And I’m not quite 5’6”. I don’t like the attention at my midsection, thank you very much.
(2) BV Jodie. Any size. I hate hobos. I need to come to terms with that.
(3) Chanel CF double flap. Beautiful to look at, but not functional for me. Too stiff, not crossbody, etc.

I forgot Lady Dior and the Dior book tote. Love the aesthetics of both, but neither would work for me and for different reasons. Too prim, too proper, too much fabric. I’ve learned I can admire a bag from afar, but I don’t have to own it. Real eye opener for me!

I´m glad I passed on the LV Twist some years ago. I had been sure it would be my perfect forever bag, then tried it on in the boutique in Paris. The experience was so nice that I got very close to actually buy it, though it was a bit small for my requirements. In the end I didn´t buy it.
Today I´m really glad I didn´t. I might have been able to cope with the size, but when I look at the bag now it already feels dated to me and I´m not keen at all on the epi leather anymore.

Gucci velvet marmont; didn't know how poorly velvet wears.
I passed bec of the huge gold logo.
I'm sorta glad i passed on lady dior & fendi peekaboo but also regret not getting one in pale pink.
I know pale pink lambskin is a no no for a klutz like me & would match very little in my closet. The lady is also very formal & the peekaboo seems heavy & annoying with the stiff divider.
But but but they were sooo pretty :(
