Bags to mark milestones in your life

Congratulations on going to Uni, that's HUGE and I think a bag is a very good practical choice for the occasion.

At the prices bags are, they can cost the same as jewellery

I was bought an Aquascutum reversible raincoat by my parents for passing my GCEs (I don't know what the equivalent is in the US, perhaps high-school diploma) - total bribe. At the time I could never have afforded a coat like that even working every day after school and on the weekend (which I did).

Usually, I go out with friends/family and celebrate these things with a meal, so the memory is the 'thing' but yes, sometimes something for myself that befits the occasion. I think it's a great idea

More to motivate me to finish my PdD rather than celebrate the milestone the fact, I bought a gold ID bracelet when I transferred from MPhil to PhD. I was only allowed to engrave once I'd finished and finally passed. I also forbade myself to wear it until it was engraved. I hate unfinished business, and having it around unwritten and unusable was a reminder I'd better get writing myself. Now it says Dr.PT :yahoo:

The bracelet engraving is a really cool idea. I might do that for when I finish my degree.

So I went ahead and bought a Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAB in black to celebrate my "promotion".

It wasn't really a promotion as such, I just got made a full time, permanent worker instead of a casual. So now I have much better job stability and I am guaranteed 38 hours of work per week and a consistent pay check as a result plus benefits such as annual paid sick leave and paid vacation leave.

I just realised that this is my "first time" ever having a full time job. My other jobs have always been casual or part time with hours varying from 25-45 hours per week.

Good for you! I think we all need a "congratulations to me" gift when we achieve different goals/reach significant milestones in life. I do reward myself at different milestones. For example, for each promotion I receive in my career I tend to purchase a bag I may not buy everyday (like my LV Manhattan GM and Celine Luggage Tote). When I turned 40 my husband and I went to Italy where I purchased a number of bags including a Fendi Chameleon and limited edition Ferragamo.

So, congrats to you...Enjoy your Rebecca Minkoff MAB!

I think I should rename this thread "Bribing yourself to do well at things that you should already be doing well at by default" LOL :roflmfao:

So I ordered the Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAB from Amazon to celebrate my "promotion"/finally getting my sh*t together. I had a $50 gift card and a 20% off code so it only cost me $368 and I was totally willing to pay full price for it ($495) so I saved myself some money there. I guess the time was just right.

It hasn't even arrived in the mail yet and I'm already lemming my next bag. This time it's an RM Jayden Satchel in Poppy Pink. http://www.shopbop.com/jayden-satchel-rebecca-minkoff/vp/v=1/1569750843.htm

I've decided that I can have this one if I can exercise for at least 30 minutes five times per week for the next three months. If I lose interest in this particular bag I will allow myself to spend the same amount on something else. The exercise thing starts today. We'll see if this is enough to motivate me.

This is a risky but fun idea! I talk from experience. Let me take you through the last 11 months.

May 2012: my birthday - MK bag
October 2012: Sons first birthday LV Speedy
December 2012: pre-anniversary jimmy choo bag
Jan 2013: post operation - mulberry Alexa
Feb 2013: valentines- mulberry carter
April 2013: pre-birthday Hermes herbag

Can you see how it can soon become a justification to buy something new? I fell into that trap! I think it's a great idea but set out the milestones you'd like to celebrate from now as its very easy to lose control & justify expensive purchases. xxxx

I'm doing something similar with a new wallet I'm eyeing :graucho:

Tell me everything.:graucho:

I feel like we're going to be such enablers :graucho::p

If I go to the gym at least 3 times a week and keep up with drinking 6-8 cups of water each day, I can keep the Rockie I recently bought (because it was originally a gift for myself for getting into school) anddddd keep the new MK watch I just ordered on Shopbop for 20% off...

Hahaha nice. I feel like this could only work if you say for example "I can't take the bag out until I have done xyz for a month".

So here is the bag. I am very pleased with it and I feel like it was a good, practical purchase.

I've not been game enough to use it yet, so I am still using my old bag at this point.

So after cervical cancer this past year, I am going in for a hysterectomy in June. I figured, no time like the present to get my first Louis Vuitton! Maybe holding him as I go onto the hospital will make it less traumatic? I have always made landmark purchases. Once I lose ten pounds, I can buy this or that. I just call it motivation! :presents:presents:presents
