Bags that are "you" and bags that are NOT "you"

What I am, set in stone:
I am a Louis Vuitton girl, for the past decade. In recent years, I discovered that Bottega Veneta’s aesthetic fits my taste, which has evolved to its more permanent state. I am also loyal to Massaccesi, a small Italian brand. I am nearly fifty, and I am done with experimenting. I have found my “look”.

What I could be:
Hermès - I like a few of the styles (but not Birkin). I choose to stay away from the potential rabbit hole I could fall into.

What I am occasionally:
- Céline
- Mulberry

What I am not:
- Chanel

I love classic or minimalistic bags with some avant garde touches here and there and some
conversation pieces from time to time. I think Hermès does that in spades.
Chanel is always a classic, but lately, I couldn’t wear gold chains as an everyday bag. Too much.

I’m not a MCM, Goyard or much of a lots-of-logos girl (although I do like Vuitton’s classic Monogran in small pieces or luggage, Fendi Zucca and Dior classic print). No plain bag or t-shirt with just the company name on it either (Balenciaga’s ‘shoping bag’ and Gucci’s ‘counterfeit’ t-shirts could have been exceptions given their ironic nature. YSL logo heels were an exception because they were gorgeous ).

I don’t think I’d wear Judith Leiber but I love some of Dolce & Gabbana’s Fairy Tale bags like the Book Spine one!

I think the most ‘me’ thing as I got older is that nowadays I rather buy 1 amazing bag (or anything) than 3 nice ones for the same amount...

I am and forever will be a Dior girl. :hbeat: I’m not so crazy about the current designer and the looks-like-a-pressing-comb treatment of the Dior logo but, I’m still not leaving camp. Lol!

I am not an Hermes girl. I get that the quality is amazing - but other than sorta liking the Kelly, the aesthetic is meh and doesn’t work for me... even when I squint and tilt my head sideways. :whut:

I want to be a Balenciaga girl but we just can’t make it happen. Lol!

Other than that, I’m flexible. Any brand can come out with an amazing bag one day and a craptastic one the next. (Gucci, my love, I’m looking dead at you.)

*I recoil at hermes birkin & kelly bags.
*Refuse longchamp le pliage hype.
*And avoid anything fur or exotic skin.

*Fendi...I occasionally flirt with you.
But doubt will commit.
Sorry.

*Avoided lv for years.
*Especially checkerboard pattern stuff.
Received bag, wallet, key cles as gift--in damier ebene.
Use all the f***ing time. Really enjoy.
*Unsure if "me."
But trudging through rain with coated canvas is sweet.
Also play travel chess games on bag pattern.

*Felt very comfortable with deadly ponies & mulberry bags.
Then both brands "modernized."
DP stopped sourcing only NZ materials, got scarves from India & dropped in quality.
Mulberry plasticized/thinned leather, cheapened hardware & became knock-offs instead of original.
*I remain brass hardware & trees & patina & bones.

*Messenger bags. Anything with front flap & wonderland of little pockets.
*These are my soul scrapings, processed into bag form.

*Also quite like sling bags. If have compartment on chest strap.

Basically, "me" has solid core but stays open. And might not be as expected sometimes.
Evolves.
Just donates whatever stops working, buys/receives new stuff. Moves on.
Life. :shrugs:

Bags that are very me:
- Under the radar, subtly branded bags
- Mid-range designer
- Robust leathers
- Longchamp bags, just about any style and material except fur
- Functional styles
- Flat handles
- Silver HW
- Crossbody straps
- Well-fitted linings that are any other color than black (to avoid that black hole -thing that happens)
- Old Mulberry
- Bags that have a wide bottom

Bags that are not me:
- Anything with clunky chains or large HW
- Heavy bags
- It bags
- Trendy bags
- Loud logos, branding or patterns
- Sensitive leathers
- Pretty but impractical bags
- New Mulberry
- Rolled handles
- Saffiano
- Super slouchy leather
- Bags that basically have no bottom
- Fussy closure systems

HA - as evidenced below, you can see that I'm pretty much ALL ABOUT Balenciaga, have been collecting the brand since it's inception!

I do have 2 old-school Chanel Jumbo's (Black & Red) and 3 Birkins - (Gold JPG, Red 25cm and Royal Blue - 30cm). However, when do I use them? .. hardly ever, only for "special events" and/or holidays.

While I love the look of Celine, my god .. those bags are so darn heavy!!! A big NO to Chloe, Mulberry and Dior - just not my style. While I do have a very old 30cm LV Speedy, it gets no usage and I'm not a big fan of all the logo-mania going on right now (have always hated MCM).

I did like some Givenchy bags (Nightingale) way back in the day, but haven't done them in a very long time (BTW - Balenciaga & Givenchy are the same manufacturer, so there is a reason why the leathers are the way they are).

Here's the Balenciaga "closet" and I have even more than these!!

WOW!

I recently realised that I am not a Louis Vuitton girl. I don't appreciate its aesthetics. I purchased a preloved Speedy B, and I am even thinking already of reselling it, eventhough I have not used it.

I am also not a Bottega Venetta and Hermes girl.

I am very much a Balenciaga and Givenchy girl.
.. and we LOVE you for that (hee hee hee)!!!

wow....multiples of the same colors.....quite a collection
do you find occasion to use all of them?

I don't like to say I'm absolutely not a certain kind of girl, because I've been known to change.

I can't see myself ever carrying any signature bags like LV, Goyard, or Gucci. There are very few LV bags, even leather ones, that I like. I don't like the vibe I get in a LV store.

For me, the quality of the leather is the most important thing in a bag.

I'm a Coach girl, especially vintage Coach.
I'm not a tote or carryall girl. I'm not a hand carry girl.
I like shoulder bags, not satchels.
I can't see myself ever having a Birkin. Not my style at all. Probably not a Kelly either. I've never seen a Hermes style that wowed me.
I'm a Bottega Veneta girl. They have great leathers and no logos. And some of the styles work for me.
Sometimes I'm a Balenciaga girl. I love the leathers but they rarely make a true shoulder bag.
I've never seen anything at Chloe, Celine, Valentino that I liked.
I could be a Gucci girl, just haven't gotten one yet.
Some Ferragamo bags are almosts for me.
Chanel is oversaturated for me.
I like the look of Dior but I can't see me carrying one.

Oh, I forgot I also like the aesthetics of Rebecca Minkoff. I love the mini macs and the love crossbody.

I'm a Chanel but only a Chanel Boy bag/WOC girl.

I'm also a YSL girl. I really like the look of their bags, but terrified to get one because of all the quality issues I read here. For the longest time, I obsessed over their WOCs and college bags. I now like the Nikki.

I'm definitely more drawn to the boyish, rocker chic look. In bags, clothing, and shoes.

I am a Chanel girl for sure :) I have a black classic jumbo with gold hardware, and I will get more in the future.

I have 1 LV that has the "look" for me, their other bags just don't seem like they suit me.

I have a YSL Nano sac de jour which fits my aesthetic. I feel maybe their kate bag is my look as well kind of.

I feel I definitely am a Hermes Kelly and Birkin girl but my bank account doesnt quite match those bags to be able to buy them just yet!

All the other brands I feel like don't match me. Ive thought about buying a new bag but I always go back to Chanel.
