How many bags do you REALLY own ?

This is tPF, so people here probably own more bags than “the average”. But then, I don’t know how many bags an average woman owns .

Did the pandemic change your handbag buying behaviours and shopping behaviours in general?

Did you find yourself needing to justify more when spending money during this pandemic?

I have 9 bags, with 1 more coming (not going to receive it until August).

I might have a purse problem...



Structured work bags (except for briefcase, smaller zipped bags that don’t fit a laptop or notebook, but fit water bottle, sunglasses and umbrella)
Mulberry zipped Bayswater (oxblood)
Henri Bendel top handle satchel (Black)
Satchel & Page Briefcase (Brown, large, exclusively for court appearances)

Open top totes (go-to bag type for work)
Mansur Gavriel small tote (Black, medium, will fit a full sized notebook/folder, but not laptop)
Love 41 tote (brown, large, when I need to carry a laptop)
Koch leather tote (smaller, brown, more rustic looking)
Ted Baker floral tote (pink floral pattern, large, non leather, will fit laptop)
Smythson business bag (pine green, mock croc leather, would probably fit laptop. Has zipped center compartment.)

The Crossbodies
Gucci Soho Disco (Black, small, fits only essentials)
Coach Demi flap (red, small, fits only essentials)
JW Hulme legacy (brown, rustic looking, fits essentials with room)
Henri Bendel hobo (Black, will fit extras like bottle of water, umbrella, etc. perfect for travel)

Clutches
Koch leather wristlet (Brown, rustic looking, day clutch. Most often used in tote or briefcase to keep wallet, phone and keys together)
Sondra Roberts glitter clutch (acrylic with gold glitter. Fancy evening bag)
Mansur Gavriel moon clutch (black, more structured, handheld clutch)
Cult Gaia cupola (Wood, brown, summery casual)

Weekend/unstructured bags
Fendi vintage bucket bag (red, woven leather, fits sunglasses, bottle of water, maybe mini umbrella)
Rebecca Minkoff hobo (Largeish, pinky-beige/blush color called “doe”. Fits water bottle, sunglasses, umbrella. Comes with shoulder strap and detachable crossbody strap, slouchy and casual)
Fossil Sydney (Caramel brown, medium, casual looking. Maybe take to work on a casual Friday)

The non-leathers
Dooney shoulder bag (black signature pattern, leather trim, bow detail. Fits only essentials. Grab and go. When I want something no fuss that can used a little roughly and I don’t have to worry).
Vera Bradley shoulder bag red pattern (Medium, fits umbrella, water, sunglasses. Good bag for pool, theme parks or other situations a washable and/or no leather bag would be useful)
Vera Bradley satchel pink pattern (more structured, top handle, medium, essentials only.)
Longchamp Le Pliage Club top handle (burgundy and navy nylon Purse matches my weekender. Fits everything when I want a non leather top handle bag.)
Longchamp Le pliage club backpack (Burgundy and navy Mostly used for travel or other times when a backpack is necessary, it matches my weekender)
LL Bean tote (large, mostly used for beach bag).

I've loved posts like this during quarantine. The solitude has fed my addiction to making lists. This gives me a nice, fairly sane list to make, and that's in direct contrast to some of the others I've made these past few months ("Television Shows I'm Proud Never To Have Watched"; "Bite Wounds I've Received From Odd Animals").

My collection changes pretty regularly. I don’t tend to include my bad-weather beaters or my anti-theft bags in my total - my beaters also play other roles (such as gym bags and extra luggage), and my anti-theft bags aren't in regular rotation. You can add them to my tally at the end of this if you like; it would bring my final number up to 22, but here are the 15 in my core collection:

BOTTEGA VENETA:
1. Ebano Intrecciato medium Olimpia
2. Nero Intrecciato small Olimpia
* I love both of these. I use them more than any of my others, because they go so agreeably with everything.
3. Large Ebano Intrecciato Veneta
* World's best mom bag. My own mom recently laid claim to my black one, and who am I to refuse my mother? I'll just have to muddle through with my 9,000 other black bags. For now.
4. Ebano Intrecciato tote
* My music bag. Fits my oversized, overstuffed music folder and all my instrumental paraphernalia. I've had it forever and depend on it, because it's big enough to let me sneak a thermos of coffee into rehearsals.
5. Mini Montebello
* Incredibly beautiful WOC/evening bag, but fits dangerously little. Almost lost it in my hair once.
6. Nero Intrecciato small shoulder bag
* Unassuming little bag, also used for evenings, but fits rather more than the Mini Montebello.
7. Ebano Intrecciato bucket bag
* I remember wearing this.

HERMÈS:
1. Chennai PM Tote
* Standard summery bag.
2. Ardennes Sac à Main Berry
* I think that's what this is called? It was my grandmother's (or my great-aunt's) and needs a spa treatment.
3. Rio clutch
* Dressy, but daytime! The sort of thing you'd wear to a friend's child's wedding.

CHANEL:
1. Reissue black quilted small tote
* Another from my grandmother (or one of her sisters).

ALAÏA:
1. Studded arabesque clous in dark green
* I bought this during quarantine because I have too much time on my hands. I haven't taken it out of the house yet. (Who am I kidding? I haven't even taken it DOWNSTAIRS yet.)

FENDI:
1. Black calf skin baguette
* My first designer bag. I've changed.

LOUIS VUITTON
1. Damier Ebene Navona
* Does this count as a bag? Once upon a time, it was a surprise from DH. I generally use it to hold my wallet, keys, etc. inside my other bags, but I have been known to use it by itself if I'm just running errands. LV isn’t really on my radar, but I appreciate this little bag’s durability.

LONGCHAMP:
1. Néo in black nylon (L, LH)
* Living without one of these is just asking for trouble.

Nice collection you have! It sounds like you have a walk-in closet for you to store your bags! I have 10 bags only. I am more of a minimalist, relatively speaking. Also because I don’t have a lot of storage space.

Well, I wanted to be honest! I include all of my bags. I am indeed a lawyer (I guess the briefcase gave it away, or maybe the wordy response, lol!)

Being honest is a good thing . Since you have so many bags to choose from, how do you store them? Do you put them on display, so it’s like you go shopping everyday - I want this one today!

I have an organizer and shelves. Most of my closet space goes to bags.

Thanks for taking pictures, I see. All your bags are in their dust bags . Is that the "it" summer bag from Cult Gia you got there? I have bags from Mulberry too. Love their bags.

I’ve read all the lists (love a good list too!). You are all rocking some seriously amazing bags.

I’m suddenly up to 23 bags. It’s amazing how the collection grows. I’m a Mulberry fan too. I have 11 now. Buying the first gave me massive guilt at the price but I’ve got over it! Quite a few were gifts from DH too.

Here is my list taken from my bag use spreadsheet! It has colour, leather type, style and use. They are in order of purchase - all since 2012. The last 4 are all this year with the Mulberry as gifts. I normally track use but it’s been very restricted due to repeated lock downs.
