I have never bought any preloved Hermes (as of yet) but if and when I do I would use her (that's my two cents). You're right, no one is infallible but her track record is very good and I haven't heard of anyone else that is as reputable as her for Hermes authentication.
I haven't read that 2018 thread in a long time but wasn't there a question about whether or not the OP in that thread had actually sent the same bag for authentication and the OP never returned to the thread with a follow-up? I may be remembering it wrong.
Ultimately there will always be a risk when buying preloved and I would think that the only way to ever be certain that your Hermes bag is authentic (even if authenticated by
@bababebi) would be to send it to the Hermes spa?
Thank you very much for your input, as this issue has been of great concern to me. I do wish i lived near an H store, and that the bag game wasn’t so complex, as buying preloved is a gamble, like you said. But at preloved H prices, where bags in only ‘very good’ condition, are listed at 15-20% over retail (more for smaller sizes), its a very risky gamble. I’ve been reading/searching a lot into this issue, and have learned there are different tiers of fakes. The superfakes can be very hard to detect, and unless the bag is authenticated in person, touched, handled, these superfakes can slip by even expert authenticators.
Fashionphile has a huge xray machine in order to see the insides of the bags, b/c they might look authentic on the exterior, but these replica sellers can take shortcuts on the unseen parts. On one hand, this might ease our minds that the replicas will be discovered through xray techniques, but then again, this also means that they need to xray some of the bags to know they are inauthentic, the exteriors are that good.
my first thought, like u suggested, was to send the bag to the H spa. But if its deemed to be inauthentic and destroyed, and the reseller argues that its not the bag they sent you, but that you sent a replica to the spa in its place, then thats a big hot mess and anyone in that position can possibly lose the bag and the money. This scenario was mentioned in that thread about the Kelly Mou, otherwise its not a scenario that would have even occurred to me. Unfortunately, that thread was closed before any final resolution was shared. The bag was destroyed but we never learned if the OP received her money back from the seller she purchased from.
i hate losing my layaway fee, but i think i’ve talked myself out of this bag. Too many risks.
