Can anyone help me authenticate this bag? I won it in an EBay auction Friday afternoon and have already received the bag so I can provide more pics if needed.

It is supposedly a Marc Jacobs Soft Satchel (MJ373)...I am a relatively new MJ fan (still love my Louis!) and own only one other - an acorn Venetia which I love. I'm still learning, and from the pics thought this may be the real thing, but now after doing some additional research I've read that this bag has not been produced in black by Marc Jacobs. However, the source from which I got this info was also a bit dated - it said my Venetia would not have a Lampo zipper when in fact a few of the newer ones do (as verified through chic_bags)!

The seller has 100% feedback on well over 200 sales, and it appears she has bought and sold luxury bags, shoes, etc. over time but nothing out of the ordinary.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Kim

Hi MissusB, welcome to tpF

I looked at the auction and I see no reason to suspect that this style is not the real deal and the seller looks good too. She says she has the original receipt so you can always ask her for a copy in the event you need to service the bag since she bought it at the MJ boutique.

Also as far as I know all MJ bags except for a few limited editions come in black. I don't think this style was ever popular enough to fake either. Hopefully someone else can come along to help with your auction.

rlbusymom I report those suckers at least once a week. There fakes are really hideous. Actually my first MJ fake I bought was from them and since then I've taken the time to really get to know MJ so it won't happen again

I can't believe that they sell or try to sell those fake bags for such high prices! And why hasn't ebay shut them down yet??? I hope that more and more people come to this forum and so that no one else gets taken by them! I am so sorry that happened to you harlem_cutie.

Thanks, "Cutie"!

Good point you make about this style not being popular enough to knock off - I really haven't seen it much!

I also posed this question in the MJ forum and the consensus has been unanimous - it's the genuine article. What a wonderful find The Purse forum has been!

My guess is the ppl buying thse bags have no idea. When I got my bag I knew it was a fake immediately because the leather was thin. Price didn't help because I paid $420 + shipping. I got a refund but was out $45 on shipping. Another giveaway was the lack of topstitching. I didn't find vogue1966's guide until after the fact.

THe ladies in the Ebay accessories forum helped me authenticate the bag and they also helped me report other auctions by Urban Legends. Reporting fakes is really a group effort because Ebay doesn't seem to care unless alot of ppl have reported the auctions and sellers. Their system sucks

I had to review vogue's page, but in it she states that this particular style was never made in black. She also has a photo similar to your auction. Here's the link:
eBay View About Me for vogue1966

It does indeed look real though, from the zipperhead to the tags.
Perhaps call MJ and ask if this style ever came in black, possibly as a Limited Edition?

Keep us posted what you find out.

I saw that one too! Looks real to me, exactly like mine except I have Violet. Good price, albeit a little worn. The only thing you need to confirm is the zippers, but judging by the leather, it does look like the real deal.

That was mine!
It sold last night.
I'm a little sad to let it go but I had to list this one and it's other Sophia friend in order to get a new bag...y'all know how it goes ;)
And yes it did show signs of use. When I bought it I thought I was getting a Burgundy bag, and as much as I ended up loving the Berry I had to let it go.

Sometimes I wish we could mention selling things in here so people would know they are genuine, but I totally understand that the negative consequences outweight that prospect.

Sorry you missed out on it:push: I would have loved for it to go to PF'er, but the new owner is a bag collector too and is really great.

LOL I shoulda known it was you, it was listed with a wintergreen Sophia. Kudos on listing it at such a great price. At least it found a new loving home. :tender:

For the Elise lovers out there, looks like an authentic Blush patent was listed, including receipt. Can anyone confirm? Good price.

eBay: MARC JACOBS QUILTED ELISE BOSTON IN NEW "BLUSH" (item 270015317880 end time Aug-10-06 19:30:00 PDT)

I saw that too, but then went to check out her other auctions which ended. The RIRI zippers on her quilted bowler and midnight blue elise are not rounded. She did not add a pic of the zipper in this new auction. She has sold three MJ bags with buy it nows of $350 or less. I am not sure about that one!

I don't see wrinkley textures (must-have in MJ's authentic Ursula items - wallets & bags) in this bag. Be extremely careful with Ursula items, I have seen the faked ones with receipts here:

A TFS member recently posted a very high quality picture of her authentic Blush Elise, take a look:

Thanks thithi!! And I would have listed the other Sophia lower too, but I got slammed by customs and taxes and if it doesn't go for the BIN I'm going to lose cash.
Oh well, I'll just be happy to break even at this point in order to get a new bag ;)

Again, thanks!!
