Hi, 4248 is correct, the eyes on your sheep look a little off, you must be careful when purchasing from *bay, the boxes dont mean much because I have actually seen post where people are willing to purchase any JC charm boxes, I'm thinking that then the could sell fakes in original JC boxes.

Buyer beware !!

Hello lovely ladies!

Today I received my first charm - the sheep! I bought it from ebay, I did a search here about the seller before buying and I read that he is reputable.

Would you be so kind to tell me your opinion for my 100% piece of mind?

This is the auction

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200603471876&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

And these are the pictures I took:

I found the sheep charm on the reference thread here and tried to compare the details - I didn't see any differences. The only thing I noticed is that my box has a clasp opening, and the box of the charm on the reference thread has a magnetic closure. Also, the tag on the bottom of the box is slightly different, as you can see comparing the pictures. Mine writes YJRUO248, and the one here writes YJRU4248. Also, some other details differ too.

Here is the link to the post of the reference thread (post #333)

I appreciate your help, thank you!

Hi!
The seller is legitimate - I searched the forum before buying. Of course no one is beyond doubt when it comes to ebay, but I believe this is a gurantee.
I don't know what you mean about the eyes, I tried to take clear photos, but it is difficult, because the charm is small and some parts reflect the light.
I know boxes don't mean much, but I treid to compare all the details with the photos here and I don't see any differences... I am not an expert of course, that's why I asked for opinions!

Thank you for responding!

I have my doubts about this charm as I've compared it to mine and I see some differences, like the eyes, and the top of the head, and the necklace detail. Then there's the problem with the box and the wrong, but similar, number (red flag). As a general rule, these charms are made with the care for detail found in good quality jewelry, and they should be exactly alike with no differences at all.
IMHO some of the other charms listed by this seller have problems also.

Hi katierose, thank you for your answer.

I am really not experienced at all, and could not see the differences you mention... As for the box, I noticed the difference when tried to compare my charm with the one posted here... Searching on ebay, I found another listing of the sheep, which shows the exact box (with clasp, and the same number as mine). I hope I can post it here

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Box-Authent...21929?pt=Designer_Jewelry&hash=item5643d68dc9

Would you say this is authentic? I really cannot understand what is going on with the boxes! Can two different types of boxes exist for the sheep? One with clasp and YJRU0248 and another one with magnetic closure and JJRU4248?

I am so confused, I have read here that this seller is legit!

I've been lurking on this forum and not posting as I'm not comfortable enough to offer authentications on items for which I don't have the identical item to compare.

That said, I do have and sell many Juicy charms and have seen many that were declared fake (here) from sellers who have never been known to sell fakes.

As for the comp listing posting above, Aboutsales sells authentic so if your item matches hers, you got the real deal.

Thank you for the input BeenBurned. I am totally new to charms and this is my first one. I have done my search here as I said to find sellers that sell authentic and I decided proceed with this seller, as I have read nothing but good words. I understand that there are a lot of fake charms, and maybe sometimes the photos we take can be a little tricky, because of the angle, the light etc, since the charms are quite small and detailed. I spent a lot of time comparing mine to the sheep here and to other photos of ebay auctions and I was very happy with it. The only thing I noticed was the box and the number, so I though I should ask, as I don't know nothing about boxes. Then I see that aboutsales has the sheep with the exact box as mine listed, and he is a legitimate seller as you say.

I really cannot notice any differences regarding the sheep itself.

Re, the red above:
Exactly! Very few ebay sellers are professional photographers and even longtime sellers don't have the best pictures.

And items as small as charms with such minute details as they have are difficult to get accurate pictures.

Another comment regarding differences in boxes (and this is speculation) is that Juicy has been sending a lot of items to discounters (Nordstroms Rack, TJ Maxx, Filene's Basement, etc.) and it's possible that they use slightly different boxes and labeling to differentiate between the ones that were from full-priced stores and discounters.

IMO, it's dangerous and hurtful to honest sellers to make definite "fake" determinations when the "differences" might be due to lack of good photography skills.

On ebay boards, tPF and other forums, I've read too many posts from sellers whose authentic items were deemed fake when they were 100% authentic.

IMO, it's better to keep one's mouth shut if one isn't 100% certain of authenticity.

I agree with you regarding photos. When I received the sheep, it looked so tiny! It was difficult to capture all the details. I took many pictures and when I looked at them later, the same aspect of the charm (for example the nose), seemed different.

As for the boxes, it's a good point. I am not sure of course, but Juicy could do this, and put for example 0 insted of 4 for the same charm sent to discounters (and maybe used the old clasp boxes for this, while using the new magnetic boxes for the full-priced stores). As fas as I read -maybe I'm wrong, the brown/pink boxes changed during 2010, when the sheep was released. And we don't know where every seller buys the charms from (this is speculation of course).

Since Aboutsales is a legit seller, why taking a photo of a fake box with a fake code and use it for the auction?

I think you missed my point.

If Aboutsales is showing a box with a code, I have no doubt that it's authentic. And if your item is identical, I think yours is authentic too.

BeenBurned that's exactly what I had in mind, but maybe I did not express it well! I meant that since the seller is legit and sells autentic, there is no way he would have a fake charm/box and list it.

Ginaki, I have a large collection of over 450 charms and I do have this sheep charm. But all I can do from here is compare my own authentic charm to the photos of your charm. My charm is exactly like the photos/charm in the reference thread. The necklace has a tiny chain with a perfect J. There are pronounced bumps on the top of his head, the eyes are detailed with the black perfectly situated, and the mouth area is nicely detailed with the lined gold. Based on these details, I gave my opinion.

If you feel your charm is exactly like the one in the reference thread, then I don't understand why you posted the question?

As far as the box goes, I know the outlet has had different labels at times, although AFAIK, the numbers always stayed the same which was my concern, so if that's the answer to this different label/number/box question, good to know.

Maybe someone else will come by and give their opinion on your charm, comparing it to theirs.

I posted the photos here, in order to have an opinion, mainly because of the box. I was pretty sure that the charm was ok (I wanted to double-check though), since the seller was recommended here as legit. So, I was very confused when I heared that the charm does not look ok!

Can anyone tell me if this one is authentic?
