"It’s usually the guilty that become defensive imo" I agree that's usually the case. But when the 98-year-old woman I care for accuses me daily of having different and multiple men in my house I get more than a little defensive. Mostly because it's unfortunately not true. LOL I have been away and am glad that others stepped in, so I didn't see this auction. I trust though that the gals here got it right.
oh no! lol.

Maybe I should have said in this particular case.......when you tell someone that they may have listed a fake item on ebay and then they flip out like a 2 year old throwing a tantrum (via ebay messaging).....then they are probably guilty of knowing already!

I would like to buy this scarf, but I am concerned about the authenticity and would very much appreciate your opinion.

Item: Authentic HERMES silk scarf instructions sur l'art de Nouer 70x70
Listing number: 153586437279
Seller: opherty
Link: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/Authentic-H...ructions-Sur-LArt-de-Nouer-70x70/153586437279

Comments: The scarf was issued in 2002 as far as I know. This scarf looks very pristine to have 17 years of age. The hems are not very well made IMHO and that makes me suspicious. I have asked the seller for close up photo of the hem corners and I am waiting for an answer. I thought maybe you could give an opinion so far anyway.

Hi Holsby, this is authentic. And, for the record, I have two unworn ones of this because I forgot I had the first one. Both of them have very puckery hems. Maybe they were hemmed by the same lady!

I think this is authentic. The reason your first request was ignored is we prefer to authenticate for active TPF members. Please participate in other threads prior to your next request. Thank you.
Hello. I am hoping you would kindly share your expertise and thoughts on this item. The seller says the care tag was removed after original purchase. Am curious what you think. Thank you so much

Another Instructions instead of the blue that went away. I am still interested in this one!

Item: HERMÈS Foulard "Instructions sur l'art et la manière de nouer et porter..."
Listing number: 223476407382
Seller: stefanalexandre
Link: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/HERMES-Foul...et-la-maniere-de-nouer-et-porter/223476407382
Comments: The scarf has the right colour, Écru, but I am concerned and confused about how the caretag is attached. It is not the right way. The stitches seem to be very long on the reverse side, Seen in the last picture.

Hi Holsby, I think the scarf is authentic, as well as the care tag. So perhaps someone has reattached the label rather than list a scarf without one. Or it was a bad attempt at the workshop. We often see the tags upside down and in “wrong” corners on authentic scarves.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Thank you sdsurfchick for your quick answer! I wasn't quick enough this time either! The same happened again! This scarf has been on the *bay for some time and was now reposted there since some days. It wasn't until you answered my request that it was sold. It seems as if people go right to our authentication threads to get the right thing. I don't believe in coincidence here.

Enjoying my warm summer, thank you, and I hope you have a nice summer too! Sooner than we think scarf-wearing-times are coming!

I know this is off topic, sorry. I feel like every time I have seen a scarf with a description that said ‘authenticated by Hermes,’ it looked decidedly fake. I actually get being defensive, but the ‘authentication’ claim is what would have been a giant tipoff for me.

Hermes does not authenticate anything. That is, if you take a scarf to any boutique, they will not (or are not supposed to) authenticate. What may happen with serious researchers is they will write to Hermes service and ask for information on a scarf. But I don't think that is what is happening in the instances of which you speak.
