Surprisingly it is possible that this might be authentic. It looks as far as I can tell from the pictures to be porc, that is pigskin. Hermes made quite a few rigid porc and porc/toile combo bags in the early 80's.

But, first, the seller needs to provide much better pictures. Ask for all the pictures mentioned at the top of this thread, and ask for the pictures to be taken on high resolution in good natural light and without flash.

Porc is susceptible to water damage although it wears like iron. I cannot see much at all about this bag or its possible condition from what is posted.

Craigslist is a notorious site for fake bags, so caution is highly advised.
(again, i'm not an authenticator) i notice one pic is of the after market canvas strap.

Thanks! I will ask about the strap - I asked about the date stamp and she said it was Q with no circle or square. That makes me think her price is high for a bag of that age.

No, I just realized that cannot be correct about the blindstamp, that would make it 1961. This bag is much more recent, actually I would guess somewhere in the 90's. Do not know for sure when H started putting the plastic under the H closure, but not too terribly long ago. And it says Made in France which for certain means post 1970, although I think it is newer that that.

I think we need to see a picture of the blindstamp.

Good day ladies, could you please take a look at this vintage kelly?

Item: Vintage kelly 32
item #: n/a (directly from her site)
seller: fashionphile
link: http://stores.channeladvisor.com/fa...e=HERMES Vintage Leather Box KELLY 32 Handbag

comment: can a spa treatment help the scruffs on the corners? Also the shape looks very bad can it be reshaped by stuffing it? Last question, is box prone to wrinkling (as shown in pictures)? Or is it just due to poor storage or abuse from previous owner?

Thank you so much.

This Kelly is authentic, I will try to answer your questions one at a time:

Can spa help the corners? Well the corners of this bag look in the pictures to be pretty beat and worn. I truly am not sure how much Hermes can do, they can redye them, but I think the abrasion would still be there.

Can bag be reshaped by stuffing? In my experience stuffing the bag wont change the shape back to how it was when new.

Is box prone to wrinkles? If it gets dry or if it gets very used in certain places it can wrinkle and I am guessing this is what happened to this Kelly. Wrinkles really do not go away with treatment in my experience. They can become more pliable but they will always be there.

Please note that this Kelly does not have her tirette or lock and key. A tirette is US$200, as I just ordered one in New York. Not sure about lock and keys, but at least a couple of hundred.

Bottom line is that I think you can do better for the price. Just my opinion.

I emailed the seller for a photo of the blindstamp but haven't heard back yet. Another issue regarding age - it has 2 interior compartments and my understanding is that Hermes didn't start dividing the Constance into 2 compartments until fairly recently. I have a vintage black box Constance from the 70's and it has one compartment. Hmmmm.....

I cannot comfortably counsel anyone to send thousands of dollars to a CraigsList seller, especially for a bag that if authentic could reasonably be expected to go for substantially more. This listing doesn't even provide an indication that the bag is in the seller's possession.

The seller just updated the listing to add pictures of the blindstamp - I can see a box but can't determine the letter in it, just above the Q marking that the seller described to me. So I guess he/she didn't understand the date code from the craftsman's markings. Any thoughts? I've asked the seller to tell me the letter inside the box.

Craigslist is not the place to purchase high-end luxury items, IMO. Especially when they want cash only.

Porc Kelly's in good condition go for MUCH more....(I've been looking for one in a 28cm size for about forever it seems so I know what I'm talking about).

I suggest you pass on this one (and we can't really tell if it's authentic because the photo's are crap) and keep looking.

Greetings hard-working authenticators! What do you think on this plume?

I saw and examined this bag in person at their store in New York in June. It is authentic. I commented to them that it was not Courchevel, more likely Evergrain, (but I am not sure about that) and suggested they check on the leather. It is Rouge H.

The pictures represent the condition pretty well, you can definitely tell it was used, but I did not think it was abused. It has a few scratches and a little corner wear as you can see, but I did not think anything too terrible. If you are looking for brand new condition this is not for you. If you are OK with a little honest use then will be fine.
