I'm an experienced (3 years) eBay trading assistant, but don't have a lot of Gucci experience. Yesterday, a seller brought me what is supposedly an authentic Gucci bag that I need to authenticate before listing for her on eBay. We do not know the style name. It is a large bronze metallic handbag/tote (13-1/2" wide, 13-1/2" high, excluding handles, and about 3" deep). It has 2 large hard handles, one on each side, with cutouts for your hands.

The inside leather label has Gucci impressed on the front. On the back are two numbers: 145777 / 486628 (in two lines). The front of the bag has an oval medallion with a silver bit-style metal embellishment with the Gucci logo and "made in italy" (all lower case).

Inside is a large zip-close pocket (where the label is attached). Opposite that is a long thin strap with a key-holder at the end. On the same side as the key holder is a cell-phone pocket.

The big suspicious thing in my mind is that the zipper of the inside pocket has a paper tag attached to it with a black plastic cord (typical cheapie tag attachment - think Kohl's). The tag is white, and says: Gucci / 145777 (same number as on leather tag) / BROWN -TEAK / U (separate lines indicated by /).

If this is not enough to go on, I will have our photographer take pix. My gut says this is fake, but you guys are the experts. Thanks in advance for your help!!Carol

Please take some pic and put them here

without offending I think everyone posting for advice should keep in mind that not all users here are experts, even when I thanked a member here for her advice I was given the eye roll and accused of not believing her....well luckily I was open minded enough to seek further opinions as it IS authentic and not fake as i was advised here by 3 members. Granted that it is vintage so perhaps hard to assess, but some here were quite opinionated on the matter, and users should not take their word as an authority on every bag.

Vintage Gucci does not have serial number starting at 13, that's a recent bag from 2004/2005. You can check the Gucci.com and read the style number, many of them still start at 14 or 15. Although vintage is a relative term, but Gucci has been around for 85+ years, an early 2000s bag would not be described as vintage.

Your listing has been removed by ebay. I hope you do the right thing by refunding your poor buyer. I did not report you since I want you to get the money back from the Powerseller who sold you the fake. But someone else did.

It's OK you don't trust any of us here, you can contact Caroldiva.com, her work is accepted by ebay/Paypal, credit card companies.

It's uncall for to discredit us here, we take our time to help people from buying fakes and I believe a few of them have been saved. You were unlucky because you don't know Gucci and bought from what you think a trusted seller. Credit card company usually has a 6 month limit to do a charge back. Good luck.

how about this one :confused1: TIA

Does the outside zipper pull has a Gucci logo on it? If so, the bag looks good to me.

well said beejerry, i have made a comment few posts back, your good unpaid work is appriciated, i can assure you alfie:tup:

It does not look quite right to me, but hard to say for sure without seeing in person. Did it come with any tags or dust bag?

No, she has had it for quite some time and it did not come with any tags or dust bag unfortunately. Where would you go from here? She was highly offended when I said I had posted pics to a site to verify authenticity and said she has never bought or sold fakes. For what it's worth, she is a powerseller with over 2600 transactions and 99.8%.

Without a clear answer, I don't know whether to push for a refund or just keep it and hope it's authentic (and lesson learned).

Are you able to tell me what doesn't look quite right to you?
