I found this auction in the deals and steals site of a purseforum member that posted it in that area. :( You guys think its a fake now ? :(
Hi guys,
Well, it's my deals and steals site that FriskyL is referring to. I'm pretty sure that it's authentic (i.e., I've seen 100% authentic vintage Lady Dior bags that look like this). The exterior looks right: stitching, charms, logo. And the interior is right for the age of the bag: the tag is right for the age, and the red top stitch on the tag matches the interior lining.

Thanks Greendrv... the girls on my other forum think that its a real bag as well but older.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone...I didn't actally say it was fake but that some details were a bit suspicious because I really haven't seen the inside tag done this way, as well as the lining. I've seen authentic versions where the inside leather flap has no stitching around it (so it looks a bit like Gucci's), but never this one before. What really threw me off was the croakedness of the tag and logo, because even older versions of the bag are very finely crafted (actually, the older versions are supposed to be even higher quality according to some PFers in a different Dior thread), and the tag+logo don't match up with this quality.

In any case, I was just giving my two cents on this bag; ultimately, if I feel suspicious about any of the details, I don't bid on a bag because I'm bound to see another seller sell the same bag, maybe even for a lower price.

MayDay,
Not offended at all! This is exactly what tpf is for - getting lots of opinions from people with experience with designer handbags. We all end up learning something new this way. :flowers: I certainly have learned plenty of AWESOME information from your posts and always highly appreciate them.

I definitely want anyone who buys a handbag off of the deals and steals website to get it authenticated if they want to (again, no offense taken).

Can anyone please authenticate this vintage dior clutch before I purchase it? I want to make sure that it is not fake. I would really appreciate it if someone who knows Dior pretty well can take a look at this auction. Thanks bunches! I really don't want to get suckered in buying a fake vintage Dior again.

eBay: VINTAGE DIOR LOGO TAPESTRY BROWN CLUTCH BAG NR (item 130031885388 end time Oct-04-06 13:03:59 PDT)

This bag is authentic!!!! I hope you win it for a low price! :p

Sorry but this is fake :(. The Dior logo on the metal plaque is inaccurate; the lambskin links are too plasticky and dirtied the wrong way (the black wax finish should not put two solid lines of black on the links); the Christian Dior PARIS logo on the interior leather flap is inaccurate; and the cherry/burgundy color is supposed to look A LOT dirtier than that. All the spring Gauchos were finished with a coat of black wax that was purposely done unevenly so some patches are darker than others (and the resulting red looks multi-tonal)...this one doesn't look like that at all.

Thank you so much MayDay for helping me. You are right, another seller just posted another one for sale using that same picture.

I have another one though that just came up. It's only up for a day auctions, so I'm not sure why she would only post it for a day.
If anyone could help me please!

eBay: AUTHENTIC Dior Girly Boston Bag w. RECIEPT (item 110040110664 end time Oct-03-06 19:44:48 PDT)

You're welcome JasperOpal!

This Girly boston looks authentic because all the details match up with those on the real bag. What surprises me is that this is a one-day listing; unless the seller desperately needs money or is super impatient, I don't see the reason for making this a one-day listing (the longer a listing is the higher the price usually goes). Usually listings for authentic designer bags that are 3 days or less end up being counterfeit bags (I think this was mentioned in this thread or the Ebay thread); the sellers do this to prevent their listings from being removed because they don't get reported as quickly (or Ebay is slow to respond to people reporting these listings in which case the auction ends before Ebay goes to stop the listing). However, these counterfeit listings usually show pictures of counterfeit bags; this particular auction shows original pictures of the authentic Girly bag, so I really don't know why this listing is a one-day listing.

If this were not a one-day listing I would totally recommend this auction, but I'm a bit suspicious. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Damn Mayday, you're an authenticating machine ! :graucho:

:shame:

I think I have too much time on my hands.

Actually, the real reason is because I think that Ebay is a great way to get deals on designer stuff (despite its short-comings), and the fact that 95% of the bags are fake should not prevent us from being able to get used (or even new) authentic designer goods for less. Because Toronto never had a Dior boutique until recently (in Holt Renfrew), my only quick source for authentic Dior bags was Ebay, and knowing the number of fakes on Ebay, I took a lot of time comparing Dior handbag pictures on Ebay (while keeping in mind that the most important difference between authentic bags and fakes is their quality) and gradually learned what real Dior bags should look like. I bought some along the way, too.

Sadly, it's a different story for every Dior bag...I got my Gaucho off Ebay and it took me a while to learn what real Gaucho bags look like (Gaucho fakes tend to look more authentic than fakes of any other Dior bag). Now that Holt Renfrew has a Dior boutique, I can actually take my bags there and get them authenticated whenever I'm not too sure.

I just hope to share some of the things I learned so that we can all enjoy authentic designer goods at affordable prices! Besides, I love Dior and I want anyone who carries a Dior bag to be carrying an authentic one!
