Hello,
I really need help to authenticate this Lady Dior Beige Patent Leather Medium Size Bag. I recently bought this bag for $2000 and am not sure if its authentic. Please kindly help!! Please note that one of my main concerns is the seam around the inside tag (the one that states "Christian Dior, Paris, Made in Italy") seems to be crackling from almost each point that the thread has been sewn threw. Another concern I have is the handles, I noticed that the bags on the Christian Dior Website have very handles that are very defined (especially on the part above the top of the round gold rings where they begin to puff out). Overall I am not sure if this is a fake or the real thing because many websites warn that Lady Dior Fakes are made very close to the real thing these days!!! Any and all help is much Appreciated :-)

Dear Friends,

I recieved the above bag (please see link above for original pics by seller) and am so excited about it!! BUT I do have some concerns after seeing it in person. I've taken more pics myself to show you. Please kindly read my concerns below and view the corresponding pics and let me know if you still think the bag is authentic...

#1) In a few different places the thread/stitch is fraying (see below pic 1, 2, 3). If this is just due to simple wear and tear I don't mind (because afterall it is a used item) BUT I hope it is not indicative of the bag being cheaply made (therefore a fake).

#2) The bottom and side of the bag the beige colour is cloudy (patches of dark and light beige) (see pic 4,5,6). Could this again be due to simple wear and (over)exposure to the elements... does such discolouration normally occur on light coloured patent leather bags?

#3) One of the handles are sewn in such a way that the front and back are NOT exactly lined up (see the left side of the handle in pic 7). Although it's not hugely noticeable, just wondering if that's a problem. I do recall however, AverageJoe saying that patent leather can be difficult to work with so I was thinking perhaps that may be why the stitching and alignment is "off" in places?

#4) The long vertical lines of stitching that are on the front of the bag seem like they are placed slightly closer to the left side (see pic 8)...thus creating a SLIGHTLY ASYMMETRICAL pattern on the front. Again, its not hugely noticeable, but should I be concerned?

#5) The round tag that hangs behind the "O" charm has on its back "Christian Dior, PARIS, MADE IN ITALY" (see pic 9). WHen I went into the store I noticed that the current medium size beige patent leather bags only have "Christian Dior" on their round tags. Should this even matter, as this is an older bag from 2010 and I'm sure they make little changes from year to year?

#6) The authenticity card that came with the bag is NOT a thick plastic card (as in the kind that comes with Chanels), rather it is a thick card/bristol board type material- is that ok?

I realize that I may be over-analyzing this bag and that some of these things are due to wear and tear and others can be manufacturing issues (As Eminere pointed out before). But since its my first DIOR bag and I'm a bit paranoid, I would greatly appreciate your opinions. Overall I love the bag and would love to keep it if you still think its the real deal!!!

Thank-you so, so much!!

Your bag is authentic, but it is not brand new.

1) The draying is due to wear and tear. Just use a very fine pair of scissors to trim off the fraying. The scissors in a Swiss Army knife are good for this because they are very thin and fine.

2) The patent has been discoloured, perhaps due to humidity/moisture or oxidation of the coating (the bag may have been exposed to sunlight or heat during storage).

3) Yes, the alignment in one spot is a bit "off". It may be because patent leather is stuff and more difficult to wrap around the support structure inside the handle (it's like wrapping a sheet of vinyl around a rounded edge). This is not common, but it looks like whoever finished the handles didn't do the best possible job.

4) Remenber that these bags are hand-made, so the alignment of the side and front/back panels may not be perfect.

5) They must have changed this recently, because all of the older bags say "MADE IN ITALY" at the back.

6) The seller likely gave you an authenticity card that belongs to a Dior wallet, not a handbag. Dior handbag authenticity cards are made of plastic and stiff (like Chanel's).

Dear AverageJoe,
Thankyou sooooooo much for all the time you put into helping me. I really really appreciate all the knowledge you've shared. You're amazing!!!
