Sorry but it's fake, as are all J8Y bags. (See a few posts above yours with another J8Y bag.)

If you aren't going to use it and choose to donate, please cut out the creed and remove the fake hangtag before donating.

Thank you, BB! The recent authenticated bag with J8Y prefix (as well, as the other suspected problems pictured) is what prompted me to ask when I came across this one today. I had read through other threads about the J8Y prefix but wasn't sure if all were fake and wanted to verify prior to disposing of it.

Thanks again!

Some fakes are so good you almost can't tell, but "solid brass" on hardware for a bag supposedly made in the 90s is a big warning flag. I have one I didn't figure out until one day when I was getting ready to use it, I happened to notice there was stamping on the buckle. It had a valid creed number but the font was off. Then it made sense why the leather never felt right.

6803 is a Hudson Bucket and 6804 is a Hudson Hobo. I don't have anything for 6805 or 6806, if they even exist. There's also a 6810 that might be a Hudson Lunch Tote but that's just a guess.

Here are 6803 and 6810, pics 1 & 2

ETA - adding 3 pics of 6804, the laptop-size Hudson Hobo (there are 3 of them plus a fake in Completeds right now)
Thank you! I've been tempted to get a 6810 several times.

It's authentic. Light colors are tricky to rehab. You might get some improvement but it won't be perfect.

Thank you whateve! Looking at pics again, it does look a bit beat up. I have not rehabbed one yet, so it does not sound a good idea to start with a light colored bag:thinkin:

Thanks again for your help!

Thanks, Whateve! This was one I got prior to finding TPF & have had sitting in the back of my closet. I agree, this leather has never felt right to me either. :(

May I please have this authenticated? This would have been a thrifted item years ago, hiding in my closet since before I knew about TPF....

Legacy Studio Flap
style 9145
(serial J8Y-9145)
measures 8" x 8.5" x 3"

Thank you.

The stamping on the magnetic snap is wrong too. Genuine magnetic snaps on Coach products can come from more than one company but they should all have VALID US patent numbers, in the correct number sequence for the year of the bag and with a valid company name and logo. This one has what looks like a fake company logo, no name of the country issuing the patent, and a patent number that isn't even close to what should be found for any item patented in the US or any other major industrial nation.

Beware of magnetic snaps that just say "MAGNET" or don't have any country's name next to whatever number they might have stamped on them. Here are a few common fakes, with yours first:

A Solid Brass stamp on a 1991 or 1992 Dakota with a big rectangular strap buckle is ok, but no newer ones have been found. Tetondeb and Jed were able to track other stamped buckles only to the late 1980s, but I've seen several on Dakotas listed for sale and actually own one.

Thanks, Hyacinth! I thought the magnetic snap markings were off & your explanation is a big help. I appreciate your time & knowledge!

It seems genuine, but has the strap been shortened? Or is it one of the shorter 36-inch straps and on the shortest position? It might be a Classic Shoulder Bag 9170.

You're right about it being the 36-inch strap & almost in the shortest position! Thanks again, Hyacinth!

Have you come across any fake NYC bags? Not to say they couldn't exist if not but I am just curious.
