Does Coach use real alligator skin on their bags? Is this over priced at 900.00?? Thank you.

Item # 390848291310

Most probably its fake. By the looks on the keychain it screams fake to me. :nogood:

What's wrong with it? That's EXACTLY the same keychain it came from Coach with and it's shown in the Early Summer 2005 catalog with a $1200.00 retail price.

WHY would you think it's fake?

Very much appreciated! :)

The black one is genuine.

Hi everyone, hope your weekend was nice. These are my finds & just wanted to be positive that they are genuine. Please, why do the first two bags have an "H" in the prefix if they were made in the USA?

This one measures 11" tall by just about the same wide, and 4.25" deep. Drop is 19" in the middle holes:

2nd one measures 9" tall x about 11 wide x 4.5 deep with a 17" drop on the second hole from the top:

#3 measures 8" tall x 11" wide x 4" deep with a 23" drop on the last setting:

The last two photos are to follow....

The 4115 Whitney seems ok. Coach did make some bags in the US at an H plant, and even a few sample bags had that code. Plant codes were often transferred and with only a few exceptions like the Italy plant could have been used in more than one country. The "M" plant code was bounced around more than a tennis ball at Wimbledon. Figuring out the dates for various plant codes is still very much a guessing game and NOT for the faint-hearted. ;)

The red one MIGHT be ok. Usually I don't recommend buying any mid to late 1990s bag with any serial number that begins with "J" since it seems at least half of them are fake or questionable. This might be genuine but I don't own a real one to compare it to.

Dear HYACINTH ~I'm not sick of hearing that!!..I reread the guides all the time, theres so much info,I guess I missed that bit about the 8 numbers.! Also,I'm not that trusting when someone tells me that they or Aunt Helen went into Saks or COACH & have had possession of the bag in their sweaty little hands or their cleanclean closet for the past 179..48. or22 years..people LIE!! Your guides & your updated TPF Authenticity guides are incredibly detailed & well thought out & written very clearly & concisely! Its amazing how much info you have included..I did see some bags recently with blocks..without dashes & I'm keeping the info saved & documented. I remember a recent post about the NORDSTROM "N" so I thought maybe Saks had something similar!! Thank you,my dear! now I have an EXPERT explanation!
My Sincerest Gratitude...SheriDahlin:ty::urock:

I don't remember Saks having any special codes for their Coach products. The Nordstrom N was used only for the items transferred to the Rack, AFAIK. And the early 1990s was probably too early for any retailers to be using special codes. Judging by the bags we've looked at, even the Coach outlet mark isn't much older than around 1990.

I agree that the vast majority of sellers don't remember when something was actually bought, but sometimes it's a genuine memory lapse rather than an attempt to "enhance" a bag's age. NEVER depend on human memory, it's incredibly inaccurate - any police officer trying to get descriptions of a criminal or crime scene from multiple witnesses will agree.

The bag and wristlet are authentic. We can't comment on price because sellers can charge whatever they want and buyers can decide how badly they want an item and whether they're willing to pay the price. My suggestion is to search for the style number and find prices you're comfortable with and have those items authenticated.

Authentic. This bag does use real alligator and is indicated as such on the creed.
Learn something new everyday. Never knew they used alligator leather. Thank you.

Right! Thanks for your input! My long term memory is pretty good, but don't ask me what I had for dinner last night!! :D

Hello all
I have a quick question
I got a court Bag 9870 in Navy
the creed reads made in Costa Rica and has
creed No D9P-9870, does this mean 1989 or 1999
Thanks
RC

It means 1999. Coach didn't start using letters of the alphabet until 1994. In case you read or heard any diffferent information, it's completely wrong and wherever you heard it is completely unreliable.

The first 2 Salearea Coach Guides tell you how to figure out creeds and serial numbers. The other 4 are also worth a read.

If she's smart (and penny-wise), she'll allow you to destroy the fakes and just keep the 2 authentic items. If I were this seller, I'd GIVE you the two others and thank you for enlightening me as to the existence of fakes, the importance of having items authenticated and helping me to save my ebay account and reputation.

(The reason I suggest she allow you to just destroy the fakes is that she can't resell them anywhere and for either of you to spend money (probably at least $10) to return fakes is silly.)

That's actually exactly what the seller offered :) She feels terrible
