In deference to the use of the word 'may' in, "J8Y may all be fake", from the fake number list, please verify/confirm this alleged fake.

J8Y-9181

Item:Vintage Red Leather Mini Hand Bag Coach USA MADE NO J8Y 9181
Item#:281322092099
Seller:$couture
URL: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Red...099?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item41801a7643

Fake. It has exactly the same serial number font as all the other J8Y- fakes.

The Whitney line didn't even come out until Spring of 2000 acoording to Coach's catalogs. The date code in the red bag is from September 1998, that's just too much of a gap. And while you can never depend completely on the style number sequence, most of the other style numbers before and after "9181" were all from 2000 or 2001.

The link may not work but I can take a screenshot of the page if you need it. Here's the March 2000 page of Coach's site from the Wayback Machine showing the Whitney line including the 9181 Mini Hobo as "New".

Seller: mr.womprat
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-PURPL...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Comments: I tried to message the buyer to get a photo of the creed. He/she never sent one. I received it today. There are no tags (it was listed New with Tags) but included (2) Coach care instruction tags. There is no creed inside that I could locate. I knew the listing should have had many more photos, but I loved the style/color. Is this real or fake?

Coach did make a style like that in the last year or two but there aren't enough photos in the listing to authenticate it. Not having a creed patch makes it harder but I don't think that style even had a creed.

I'm not an expert on new styles. Please wait for someone who is to tell you if they need more photos and of what areas.

Can I get help with this ID? I already purchased off ebay.

Hi

Can someone help with this one?

Item: COACH BRITISH TAN LEATHER POCKET MESSENGER/CROSSBODY BAG 9755
Listing Number: 261457833045

The bag appears authentic. Some people on the forum have had problems with this seller.

Thanks for the response! What kind of problems? Were his other eBay items fake or was it a dispute over something like payment/shipping?

Hi,
I just discovered this great site! I have 2 vintage leather coach bags that I bought in the last few months, and I'm wondering if someone could authenticate them?

The first is a British Tan City Bag: F4C-9790

And the second is a Navy Court Bag: J8C-9870

I bought the Court bag first, and I really like it-- the leather feels great and it seems very well made. The thing that made me wonder is- I wore it recently on a day that turned out to be hotter that I was anticipating. I got a little sweaty while running around, and was wearing the bag cross-body. Some of the blue leather from the bag wore off onto my light colored shirt. I was surprised that this happened... I wore it before in light rain and didn't notice this happening. Does this seem strange? Does it just need some leather sealant?

The tan bag I bought on ebay about a month ago and the quality of leather just doesn't feel as sumptuous as the court bag. It seems a bit dry. I mink oiled it a few times but it didn't help too much. But then again, it hasn't bled onto any of my clothes...

I would love to get someone's opinion if you have a chance. Thanks so much!!

Thanks, Hyacinth!

Other than the crappy blue lining I didn't have anything else to go on. Knowing the production year is key, I'll have to figure out how to use the Wayback machine. The link worked for me, and I bookmarked the default home page for Wayback for future reference.

:sunshine:

ETA - Ebay already pulled it.

Your link doesn't work. We need creed photos and more photos showing the bags and their details. If the ebay links are still available, please post those as well.

I've never had leather color come off onto my clothes. In my experience bags from the 90s are usually colorfast. It is possible that a previous owner may have used some kind of polish. I know of one person who had a wallet pick up color from the inside of an older bag.

Once we authenticate the bags for you, you can get rehab tips from the rehab thread here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-clubhouse/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-833400.html

Hi guys,

I am looking at these two beauties: Candace in Navy with Citron tassels.
The more expensive one looks like it's in better shape - what do you guys think?

Thanks!

I'm only seeing one picture of the first one. There's no way to authenticate it with just one picture. I wouldn't recommend buying from a seller who doesn't show enough pictures. Ebay allows 12 free images! Sellers should take advantage!

The second one looks okay.

As for condition, although advertised as NWOT, again, without pictures showing inside, corners, etc., we can't tell whether it's new or lightly used. (Too many sellers describe used items as new.)

The second one shows the corners and inside and they seem okay (clean and relatively scuff-free) but ask questions before buying.

Fake. It has exactly the same serial number font as all the other J8Y- fakes.

Just for fun, I searched "Coach J8Y" and there are a lot of them!

I'd like a fake J8Y creed photo for future reference, Can someone post one for me, please? I looked at the purses in BB's eBay link, but many of the photos are gone now, or the bags are black and the creed is difficult to see. Thanks.:smile1:
