I despise the GSP. I have bought a couple of items from buyers who only use that system because they don't want the hassle of filling out forms and shipping it themselves. In addition to the high costs they use FedEx and I'm never home when they deliver and have to muck around making alternative arrangements rather than just picking it up from the PO. Like you fuzzymummy I have cancelled transactions because sellers didn't realise they were locked into the GSP and when they called ebay they get this load of bs about how it's safer and it makes it easy for everyone because all charges are covered and the buyer won't have to pay customs etc. I buy all the time from the US and UK at the cheapest possible shipping even if I have to wait longer for it, and have never paid anything extra and have never lost anything. It's just another way ebay makes money, like encouraging sellers to do free postage so they can get their 8.99% on the postage as well as the sale.
In the US, ebay gets 10% of the total price, including the postage cost.

eBay recently updated their TOS. When I logged in the other day, I clicked "Agree". Apparently when you do this, it puts you in the Global Shipping Program and does not tell you. I had to go back in and change my settings, excluding everywhere but US. It took out all of my shipping settings (I only had shipping set up for US and the second part on SYI listed as No International Shipping).
Thanks, I wish more sellers would opt out of the Global Shipping Program. I would think many potential buyers (like myself) avoid these listings since the shipping and import charges are exorbitant. I was checking out a listing by a very trusted eBay seller who is active on this forum where the price was 299.00 OBO. The shipping was 15.70 and import charges 88.00! That's a lotta moolah especially since I rarely pay import charges on vintage items. I take it you are not interested in shipping outside the US.

OMG! It's just gone up to 8.99% on ebay.com.au but not on postage - yet. I bet that will come. I reckon the only ones making any money on ebay are ebay, PayPal and the sellers who deal in fakes. I buy and sell stuff as a hobby more for the fun of it but some people try to make a living out of it.

Many sellers WOULD opt out if they knew they were in. The problem is that participating in the GSP is the default and there's no notification to sellers that they're in it until they sell to an international buyer. And at that point, the damage is done.

Aha! I think that might be the number one thing counterfeiters get wrong with this style.

I don't think it's genuine. Compare it to this listing for the same bag - the D plant was still using the old-style creeds that said Made In The United States on the bottom line:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VTG-COACH-T...899?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item43c24e5f23

and here's a listing from several months later that still has the old creed:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-C...531?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item3cd8c1682b

Here's a photo of a different style but from the D plant in the same month in 1994:

Thanks so much you two! I always enjoy an educational discussion :smile1: I am also pleased to report that I got a new phone last night, so no more emergency posts, ha ha! The purse went back yesterday, and got myself a gorgeous pair of Cole Haan Nike air suede boots instead :p

And another one - this is a large backpack, I didn't even realize it had a creed patch in it when I bought it - just thought it was a large leather no name knapsack. The creed is really hard to read, and I've never seen this style before - so started freeekin' out that it's a Foach.

Don't know the style
