The bag is fake. Not only is R an invalid month code but E isn't a code for a bag made in the US. I don't believe that the style of that bag is what 4181 looks like either.
Hi, BB, does that mean that the bag in my post (just a couple earlier than this one) is fake too? It is also style 4181. Seller calls it a Lexington but I only saw briefcases doing a search. Thanks.

Hi, can someone take a look at this. Any search with the name Lexington brings up briefcases. The snap closure and zipper pull is nickel and looks a little flimsy (to me) plus the hangtag metal is brass. Thanks.

I didn't respond to your request because this isn't my area of expertise. Based on what I know, the bag looks good to me but I recommend you wait for other opinions.

As for the seller's use of "Lexington" as a key word, I'm not sure that is correct, but often, sellers don't know style names or they use a variety of style names as key words in an effort to get more views of their items. If you searched "Lexington," you would have seen briefcases. If you searched 4181, you would see bags that look like the one in the listing.

Wait for Hyacinth and Whateve to comment on the bag and style name.

I don't see any problems with it. The seller or previous owner added the hangtag chain and the brass charm. It didn't originally come with the bag. The zipper pull looks like the kind of zipper pulls Coach used at the time. I believe the bag was part of the Lexington collection. I don't know the exact name. As BB said, you get more results searching by style number for older bags since most sellers don't know the correct name.

I think the bag is fine. The plant made an error by transposing the year and month codes. I've seen this same error by the same plant during the same month on authentic bags. Everything else on the bag looks genuine. Other opinions are welcome.

ETA: I forgot to mention that the listing is wrong in claiming it is from 1992. It was made in 1995.

Please authenticate. The style of the creed with the Made in United States I thought was prior to the style numbers. Also, the prefix is odd.

You also can use the EDIT button to add to a post instead of writing a new post just a few minutes after completing one, it's less confusing and cluttered.

The old style creed with Made In ... at the bottom were gradually introduced between the start of 1994 and early 1996. Different plants got new-style creed stamps at different times. The serial numbers were ALL changed to the new format in early 1994 so it's perfectly possible to have an old-style creed with a serial number that includes the style number. Serial numbers and creeds were stamped with different mechanisms and one could be changed or updated without changing the other.

Whateve has already explained about the scrambled prefix, which is also mentioned in one of the Salearea guides.

The Waverly is genuine.

The Lexington bags usually didn't have hardware except for zipper pulls or snaps but the hangtag chains were silver.. The red one's hangtag was changed, and that bag is perfectly genuine. A Search for "Coach Lexington" using "search title and description" and using the links on the left side of the page to narrow it down to Womens Handbags found four handbags from the Lexington line.

Thank you Hyacinth and Whateve. I tried to search for it in completed listings but I think if I am in ebay.ca as apposed to ebay.com I don't get many hits. I like the unstructured style. I noticed on the pics you provided Hyacinth that this style also came in a satchel too. Do you have a pic of that too. You ladies are incredible. Thanks.

Don't bother Hyacinth, I found the satchel style. Nice but kind of small. Thanks.

Hi again!!

Is this an authentic Willis? (G9B 9927 United States). My concern is that there is no dash (-) in the middle of the code where you would normally see one.

The measurements are correct though.

Thanks in advance and the pictures are of my bag below: :)

Several weeks ago there was a discussion about the Legacy Zips. I remembered I had several in my rehab pile. Have always felt comfortable with them, but in light of the discussion it would put my mind at ease to have other eyes take a look. Both bags are identical in size, seams begin & end in the same locations. The US 98' olive with brass has a brass zippered pocket; the Costa Rica 02' black with silver has poly zip pocket. Beautiful leather on both. Authentic??
