AUTHENTICATION HELP DESPERATELY WANTED...

A friend of mine wants to buy this bag and has asked me what I think.

My first instinct is to AVOID... but she really loves it and I am no expert apart from my love of bags generally. However I do not own a coach bag and would not have any idea of what to look for.

Can someone help? The negative feedbag on this sellers web site is enough to make me want to run but my mate is being stubborn - apparently the bag is soldout and she really wants it...hmmmm

Wonderful! I have peeked at a couple of these guides in the past. But like your disclaimer states in your signature I would use what I have read and compared and researched a little bit more before deciding on a purchase, or attempt to challenge a bid. I also enjoy reading the older posts here as well. Thanks for the positive direction. :ghi5:

THANK YOU Hyacinth!!
I appreciate the link to these guides-the vintage leather bags have always been a bit confusing for me-but a few of my questions were answered just by reading these. :-) thanks again for your time and knowledge!!

It looks good to me, but feel free to wait for more opinions if you want. The seller has over 21 thousand feedback, so it's expected to have some negatives. Gorgeous bag!

Hello Ladies,

Please authenticate this Coach item:

Item: Vintage Coach black leather purse bucket tote hobo 9085 NICE

Comments: Looks like something has been applied to several areas on the bottom of the bag, perhaps shoe polish. I'll ask the seller about this.

Thanks in advance!

The first one has a lot of problems, besides just the strap having been drastically shortened or altered, or just not made correctly in the first place. Obviously the serial number is wrong - 9927 isn't a Watson bag style number, a Watson would be 9981, the font of the serial number isn't right for that time period, and a 1994 bag probably wouldn't be stamped Solid Brass. I've looked for other G4D- prefixes and both of the ones I've found have other problems with the bags they're in (both apparent Willises) that make me thing those 2 other bags are fake. It's not a good sign that the third bag with that prefix, the one you have, also has authenticity problems.

Here they are for comparison -
wrong details on turnlock tab, wrong style number and several problems with the serial number including font size:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-C...207?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item4d143b443f

The details of the turnlock tab on this one aren't quite right either but that might just be a minor problem:

I can't see the back of the turnlock on the one you bought, but is it visible or not? I'm guessing not.

The BIGGEST problem is that the Watson you bought is dated July 1994 but the Watson style wasn't even introduced until the Holiday 1995 season catalog. My opinion on the Watson is that it's fake.

As for the second bag, -9965 is NOT a Bedford Flap and doesn't look anything like that bag, -4164 should be the style number for the Bedford. NO Soho style from the 1990s would ever start with a -99**. The serial number stamping shows a mark in front that shouldn't be there, the inside zipper pull is wrong, and the serial number font is also wrong. Below is a creed from a GENUINE bag with a B7C- prefix. ANOTHER fake.

I suggest avoiding that seller's listings, she's not only NOT having her "Coaches" authenticated but she's not even double-checking the style numbers. And if a style number in a bag doesn't match the bag, don't buy it. Coach did make a few mistakes when stamping style numbers, but I've just seen more in those 2 bags than I've seen in the last six months.

Although Hyacinth has given her opinion on wisewomancollections, I have a bit more to add.

In addition to the fakes you purchased from her, she also sold this fake for which she received positive feedback.

And several of her completed and sold listings appear to have been polished or dyed, though not disclosed. This is one example:

Genuine, but I'm also seeing streaks of something on the base.

Is it too late to report the one that sold above?

That poor Ashville satchel looks like it was sprayed in shellac :(

Report away! And let us know if you have any problems getting refunds for the ones you bought.
When I report, I always look at completed listings. And if I find completed fakes, I do report them too.
