Coach has made this bag for a long time. I'm not sure when they started making it. I have one with a NYC creed with a glued-on serial number, which could be from the late 70's or early 80's. Coach used the NYC creeds until around 1988. Yours could be from anywhere in between 1988 and 1993, although it was probably on the earlier end of that range because of the xxx-xxxx format.

Ah ok! Is it crazy that I feel sad I didn't get a NYC creed with a glued-on serial number lol! Thanks for your help :)

Hello, I would like to authenticate this backpack. I bought it on Etsy.

I am including my own pictures, thanks

Genuine Classic Backpack, and one of the last bags to come out of the US's "M" plant in June 1996 before it was closed and the plant code M reassigned to Costa Rica.

That last bit isn't important unless someone obsesses about codes and serial numbers like a few of us do. I'm just deeee-lighted that your backpack has apparently given me the actual date when that plant code was transferred. WHHEEEE!!!! :yahoo:

Thanks Hyacinth! I'm so glad it's genuine because I got it for a good price and it's in excellent condition.

I am still on my hunting for willis and station bag. Seem like they are often be copied. Here I have a few listing that I'm interested in buying. Please help me to authenticate them... Thank you very much.

All three are genuine, and Grey was available on Willis Bags in 1999 when that one was made.

Well, shoot, Hyacinth - I have a "collection" of "M" code creed patch photos & have both US and Costa Rica creed patches for AUGUST 1996! (No later 1996 OR 1997 US "M" codes, tho...) I sort of figured they switched somewhere mid-month or something - unless they were running both at the same time.

I also have a few 1998 US "M" codes, plus that one 2001 US "M" code I asked about a while back (inconclusive...)

Do you think they just switched the "M" back & forth between the 2 locations?

I'm talking "H" month codes - AUGUST 1996.

Well, they switched them back and forth in June so they could have done the same thing in August. And again in 1997. I don't know why but they must have had their reasons.

The important thing is to keep that possibility in mind when authenticating and that either plant code might be valid.

Good Taft/Bad Taft? (Taft right? I'm not completely misremembering the name?)

Thanks!

Definitely a Bad Taft! The creed says it was made in the US but the serial number code is for a Chinese plant and it was making mostly fabric bags during all of 2002. The spacing and font in the serial number don't look right, and it's possible but not likely that the Taft was still being made in 2002. Also, the front pocket flap looks too long although it's hard to be sure since there are no straight-on photos of the front. But it definitely doesn't look right.
