I saw this one. I asked the seller for the number but I didn't receive an answer. I think the year code looks like a 4. I'm seeing 4143 for the style too. The style looks like a Prairie bag but the shape of the strap end is wrong and the stitching looks sloppy. I can't say for certain that it is fake without seeing a legible picture of the creed.

The serial prefix looks like M4K then 4143. There's a J4K-5180 briefcase listed that's an obvious fake since the "new" style turnlock is more than a year too early.

Just noticed BB has the prefix as H4B- which would DEFINITELY make it fake.

Thanks, Whateve, BB & Hyacinth -

I appreciate the input! I was thinking maybe I was misreading the serial number, but it seems not... (Like Whateve, I, too, asked the seller, but I got no reply.)

Thanks again.

My problem is the 9 inch pocket.
I have measure my extensive collection of old duffles.
All pockets were within a quarter of an inch of 7 inches. Several fakes I have had had larger pockets.
Also the zipper material is brighter than my same color duffle 9085 bag..

the pocket mystifies me

Item: "Duffle Sac"
Seller: Summagal

Comments: Says she had it authenticated but I have 20 duffles and I've NEVER seen a huge inner pocket like that and the creed looks sketch but it's not very clear.

As you can see, that bag was questioned just 2 posts above yours in post #5884 and her concerns were also with the size of the pocket.

I'd be interested to know where and by whom that bag was authenticated because I can't imagine anyone authenticating a highly faked style without a legible picture of the creed.

From what little I can see of the creed, it looks like it starts with "J" and with so many fakes beginning with that month code coupled with the size of the pocket, there's no way to authenticate it from the pictures unless someone else can determine that there are enough variations that it's fake.

I'm mobile so it's hard to read through. Cinzia beat me to it with the same concerns I see. The lady responded that she had it authenticated at a coach store.

The creed pic is too poor to read the serial number. It might start with J7A- but I'm not sure about any of those digits. The seam around the bottom is a big problem. I'd call it questionable but I personally prefer to see a readable creed pic before reporting it. But that's just me.

And I wonder who did the authentication. If she'd bought it herself from a Coach store she wouldn't have needed to authenticate it. Another thing, the Duffle Sac NEVER retailed for over $400 any time in the 1980s or 1990s, the retail in 1996 was $248. The only $400 version was the recent remake # 17998.

ETA - Just read Tetondeb's comment - "I'm mobile so it's hard to read through. Cinzia beat me to it with the same concerns I see. The lady responded that she had it authenticated at a coach store." Well, we all know just how much THAT authentication's worth! Report away if you're comfortable doing it, the seller has NO valid authentication and too many problems that shouldn't be there.

The pocket is too big for a duffle sac. The zipper is brighter than my red 1996 duffle sac and a vintage version would have a black or navy zipper. The zipper pull isn't stitched across the end and is the wrong shape- we see this on a lot of fakes. The creed is too faint to read, but even without seeing that, there is enough wrong with this bag to prove it is fake.

Boy oh boy, does summagal have a lot of the same duffle sacs in different colors!

The red one has been removed but she also has this bag with J8H as the prefix. Considering the questionability of the prefix coupled with the seller's other item(s), maybe this should be checked too.

Authentic?

I have one of these and think they are really neat. You will find that it is a little shorter in height than a Stewardess and it has a double thick sewn strap - the Stewardess strap is single thickness with with piping around the strap. From what I understand, these were special ordered with the ID pocket and thicker strap by UAL for its stewardesses to carry. Every time I carry mine, I think about what stories it could tell if it could talk!
It is a really neat bag! I know that the only complaint I ever hear about the regular "stewardess" bag is that people wish the strap was a little longer so they could wear it x body. if you read the comments about the new re-issued stewardess bags that is the main concern, otherwise its a big hit with everyone.

The navy one is questionable. The font of the number doesn't match any other authentic H plant creed I've seen. The zipper pull is missing a line of stitching. The other two are probably okay.

First link - the Navy Blue one has an incorrect bottom seam

Second link - both bottom seams and creeds look ok

1- genuine Slim Satchel Compact, probably early-mid-1980s, technically not a "Cashin Bag" from her time period with Coach
2- genuine Slim Satchel Large, mid to late 70s or very early 1980s
3- NOT a Cashin bag, made in the late 1980s, probably a Club Satchel
4- Soho Waverly Bag, 1996 so not vintage
5- Looks like a Retro Dinky Shopping Bag from 1991, style 9001

Thank you! Do you have any recommendations where I can get a replacement strap in this colour? Am based overseas. Thanks!

All you can do is watch for auctions for the same bag in the same color, I doubt very much if Coach has any replacements after 20 years. Or you can replace it with a gold-color chain strap. Wait until you get the bag and look at the hardware to find one with a kind of clip that will work on the bag. Someone who owns the same style may have better advice.

A gold colour chain strap sounds really nice! Will source for it. Thanks!
