Thanks, Hyacinth! :) is the color putty?

I want this in burgundy!

You and Google are an awesome team... And of course this image is from one of your old tpf posts!

It might be Putty. Older bags are really hard to put a color name to.

I have two here as well, same items, same colours:

1) Item number: 221279657741
seller: 53bigbooka
listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221279657741...84.m1423.l2649
comments: photo 15 there's a water mark and white dots... wax? mold? odd.

2) Item number: N/A
seller: station85
Listing: http://www.etsy.com/listing/16159461...earch_type=all
Comments: of the two, which would you rather rehab? I'm a noob at this rehab and rescue stuff so I want the highest possibility of success possible

After discussing 53bigbooka just 2 days ago, this (pffft) "top rated seller" has listed another fake with another invalid prefix/serial number.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Leath...762?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item1c36a9bc62

In case the listing is removed, here's a picture of THIS fake's creed:

UGH!! Just awful! Which is exactly why I am not bidding. That, and I actually bit the bullet on Etsy with this court bag :D But back to 53bigbooka, I was reading his feedback and it all just sounds awful.

I purchased a bag with a very blurry creed, I will put up a clear pic of the creed when I receive it, does it look ok with the pix that do show? Thanks

seller: Linfluentialdesigns

It looks like it might be a Sonoma Satchel Natural Grain, style 4921. What I can see looks ok but you may want to post a clear photo of the creed and serial number when you get the bag. Please refer back to this post when you ask. Here's Coach's photo, it looks like the long shoulder strap is missing.

Yikes! It looks like 53bigbooka and station_85 have more in common than a few Court Bags. :yucky:

53bigbooka seems to often respond to complaints by blocking the buyer. Now THAT'S the way to develop a strong customer base. But s/he's probably doing them a favor. :graucho:

OK, found it.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Tan...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

The "saddle Bag" in that listing is fake. The "J" month code always needs careful authenticating but the big problems on this one are the colors of the bag itself and of the hardware. The leather color looks more like Camel than British Tan and Camel wasn't introduced until around 1999. From what I've found in the catalogs, the silver/nickle hardware wasn't made until Spring 1997 and then ONLY for a few Soho bags (style numbers starting with -40** or -41**. That hardware wasn't available on the "classic" styles until early-mid 1998 although some specific new lines like Neo and some of the briefcases may have had it a few months earlier. And going back to bag colors, silver hardware was usually matched with Camel, almost never with British Tan. And the date code is too early for it to be Camel.

The style itself, 9988, wasn't introduced until Spring 1997 so although the date is possible for a bag with a September 1996 year and month code, it's unlikely. Add that and all the other date discrepancies to the always-suspect J6D- prefix and they all point to the bag being almost certainly fake.

Go back to post # 5426 where I posted two examples, real and fake, of other J6D- creeds.

The top one with the outlet stamp is what a genuine serial number font with that prefix should look like - see how the tops and bottoms of most of the digits are "squared off" or flattened. The second one is from an absolutely certain fake bag and had exactly the same font in the serial number as the Saddle Bag you asked about. You may want to save those photos somewhere to use for comparison when looking at other bags with that same serial prefix.

Thank you so much!

Ladies! This will be (I think) a quick question. On the vintage bags..does the prefix ever begin with a number instead of a letter.. for instance 6DH? I can't remember seeing this addressed in the explanations, altho I'm positive it has been. As ever thanks so much!

The bag appears to be authentic but the style number isn't 7274 as you posted. It's 6823.

Here's the listing:

Thanks. If I'd actually been able to read the creed in your first set of photos, it would have saved a few minutes of my life trying to find the number that you gave in your post, "Coach 7274 Jacquard Monogram Hobo with Cowhide and Suede Trim". Why did you post that number? The style number on the creed is -6823. That's the number that should be used in descriptions of the bag.

That's just one of the reasons why we always need to see clear readable creed photos. The bag looks genuine.

Oh I'm sorry, that was what the seller posted. :( Thank you so much! :)

Yes, it happened sometimes, especially from plants that weren't "major" Coach plants or where English may not have been the primary language. It's most common in bags from Italy and Costa Rica but we've spotted a few from the H plant recently too.

I think at least one of the Salearea Guides posted at Ebay mention this, or they will the first chance I get to post an addition;

BTW, I authored and researched these Guides for Salearea and (obviously) recommend them, since I know how much study went into putting all this information together. I've been collecting photos (now totaling over 50,000) plus catalogs and all the text information posted by other experts that could be validated, and it all comes together here. There are a few dates that made need a little tweaking but the basic information is solid. (Now if Ebay would stop messing up the blasted links to the pages...!)
