The name of style 9965 wasn't Trail Bag, it was Legacy Small Flap. The Trail Bag was style 9955. Neither of those bags is a Trail Bag, the black one is probably a 9965 although without a creed photo it's hard to be sure. The red one looks older, probably early to mid-1980s. It looks like a Small Shoulder Bag but without measurements I'm not going to speculate.

The two bags in your photo are obviously not the same style bag so the comparisons really don't prove that one or the other is fake. The different color metal zipper pull may be a replacement. What you call a "puffy" hangtag was exactly how the mid-1980s hangtags looked.

You can't compare two different styles. If you need the red bag authenticated please post measurements, also a longer view of the creed that includes the inside pocket especially the top. Thanks!

I'll take more pics in the am. My black is a 9965 small flap. I see that bag called a trail often and the seller told me this was a "trail bag" I expected them to be the same. That's where the comparison came from. When you say top of the inside pocket. .. you want the seam area above the zipper where the back and flap meet?

If anyone has information on this wallet, I would very much appreciate it. I picked it up at a local thrift store for $5.25. It has a black fabric "Made in China" tag inside, (no dot on the tag). The picture makes it look more tan/brown than it is. The leather has a slight shimmer to it, that makes it look almost bronze in color.

Thanks!

Only if it looks unusual since I don't have any pics from any similar bag. I just need to see how the pocket looks. The measurements are important though, especially with bags that don't include the style numbers in the serial number. (And don't depend on sellers to know the correct name of the bags they're selling, unless they're very experienced with Coach).

I don't trust that J7R- code, it's been in one other bag that had several other problems. On this one the style number looks like 9965 but isn't the same style as the Legacy Small Flap that number actually belongs to. Even if I'm reading the last digit wrong, there's no other style in the 996x series that matches that style. There are odd stamp impressions around the creed stamp that don't belong there, the R plant code was for Thailand and not the US, and while older Coaches used a 2-piece hangtag that often came apart the inside suede color should be the same as the outside leather color. And the digits in the J7R part of the number just don't feel right to me. The photo of the bag with the flap open also seems to show "stretch marks" below the turnlock that shouldn't be there.

I think the word "states" looks odd just because of the lighting but there are other details about that bag that would make me recommend against buying it.

Thanks Hyacinth for your prompt reply! I'm staring at the pictures on the leather overlap and the stitching. They just don't look right for a coach quality bag.

Hi Ladies,
I very much like this bag but can't seem to find the style/serial number anywhere else. The seller said it was 031-8023. Can you please authenticate it and also tell me something about this bag (factory outlet bag or not/style/approximate year of manufacture etc). Thank you so much in advance!

Bags with all-number serial numbers were made before 1994 and can't be used to search for a style number because the style number isn't there. Please read Ebay's Salearea Coach Guides on Serial Numbers and on Creeds for more information.

And since the one you asked about was made before 1993 it's not likely that it came from a factory outlet although I don't know exactly when the first outlets were opened.. But there's no way to be 100 percent sure if it's genuine because there's no clear photo of the creed and serial number. Being told the number isn't enough, we need to actually be able to see and to read the stamps. If you can post a clear, large, in-focus photo of the creed and number we can take another look. There's one detail on that bag that is a tight fit with the serial number you posted, although it may be a style called an Avenue Bag. We never recommend that anyone buy a Coach Bag unless the photos clearly show a readable creed and serial number.

It was part of the Parker collection. I think from 2009 and the color was called Cinnamon.

Here's the zipper area. Hope this helps! I'm particularly impressed with the anti-gravity zipper on this one ;)

Very good advice! I will ask seller for a pic of creed plate. Thank you again!
