Thank Hyacinth - here is a side by side of the two zipper pulls - it does seem to me that there are enough differences between these bags that one of them isn't authentic. View attachment 2143656
The zipper pull on the black one looks like a pull we've seen on fakes. I would be concerned about it but that one detail alone wouldn't be enough for me to say it was fake.

I have been clicking on the photobucket photos and they don't get very big on my PC. This has been a problem with photobucket ever since they switched to mobile. I appreciate you attaching them this way.

Thanks, Whateve. When you say "tiny" photos, I assume you are clicking on them? They show up pretty big on my screen. I just uploaded full res versions, so maybe that would help.

Here is my concern on the zipper pull (and I have found that many good fakes miss the zipper pull so I try to check those). First is my bag, then three photos of what I would expect, then another photo of my bag (and my cat) - I expect a shorter chunkier less tapered pull, but I don't have anything in hand to compare to. However, the three photos of shorter tabs could be fake and mine could be genuine.
Sometimes you can't be 100% sure. Were all those other ergos made at the same plant in the same month as yours? If they were, I would be more concerned. The pull on your ergo looks like a lot of pulls on authentic bags I own that aren't ergos. Maybe they used these pulls until they ran out and then started making the shorter pulls. I would be more worried if it had a pull like on the black lunch box zip.

I think we also have to be careful that we don't get too focused on small differences. We really don't know what went on in the plants or how much leeway there was in these details. Like we've said, Coaches weren't perfect, and it's much better to look for more than one incorrect detail before deciding that something's fake, especially if there isn't another one that we can be absolutely sure is 100 percent genuine to compare it to. There are a lot of older Coaches where it really can't be proved one way or the other.

Thank you so much, Hyacinth and Whateve! This is very helpful - I am trained as a scientist and so am always looking for patterns and rules. I need to think more like an artist - you guys are more like those detective that evaluate forged paintings from great masters than "CSI Coach." I think I am getting it!
