:help:I'm stumped. This bag seems good to me in every way.....except... it has no serial # ???? I believe it to be a Hamptons Satchel, Style #9270, mfg late 2004, possibly for the early MFF 2005 line??? It measures, approx 13-1/2 x 9 x 4-3/4. I have only been able to find 2 others to compare and can't seem to find any detail that is different other than the lack of serial #. Links to others:

Is someone familiar with this style bag and could you help to possibly authenticate? The bag is in my possession & I can provide additional pics if necessary. TIA

Good evening Ladies, I've been buying a lot of vintage leather Coach bags. I put in a bid on this one just as it was ending and had I taken more time, I would have reported it rather than bought it. I did check the seller's feedback and didn't see any red flags so I went for it. I present to you the "Not-Chester" -

http://s1273.photobucket.com/user/netlawyer/library/Not-Chester

Now that have the bag in hand, in addition to the counterfeit serial number there are a number of problems with the bag - wrong zipper pulls, metal keeper on the strap rather than leather, buckle is held on with a rivet rather than sewn in, the welting doesn't line up, wrong spacing in the creed and the inside of the pocket is not dyed on one side.

Would appreciate any input you have to take back to the seller.

I am also looking at bidding on this bag - it is a newer style so I am completely out of my element.

The seller also sent these photos when I requested them.

Thanks in advance!

Talking about Chesters, how does this one look?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CLASSIC-COA...441?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item1e797116e1

seller: new2you77
item num: 130886473441

Thanks
It definitely has the same wrong strap that the one I posted has. The outside zipper pull looks like it has the same extra tab on it too. Same wrong creed spacing and the welting isn't centered on the bottom.

I am pretty sure this one is likely to be authentic (has good photos) if you are looking for a green one:

Of course, lookit me, lookit me! I haz teh experteez on Chesters. :lolots:

I'll just be quiet now.

Without a picture of the creed, we can't authenticate it though I don't see any obvious red flags.

As for being a "good deal," we can't make price suggestions. Items are worth as much or as little as a willing buyer will pay for it. Some unpopular styles are nearly impossible to give away and some HTF or high demand bags sell for triple their original retail prices.

To get an idea of selling prices, do a completed items search of the style number. The green amounts are the selling prices of items that sold. Red prices are for items that were unsold.

I can not get my other picture to attach...the buyer says they have had it a few years and sent me a picture of the creed. It says Costa Rica? Does that sound right? I will try to get the picture on here later...

I called coach and the J8p-9927 is the number of a bag that was made after 2000. The number is stamped clearly in the picture, but the section That says This is a coach bag is not stamped crisp like my other bags, but it could be the angle or glare?

Picture of my screen with my phone...what do you think, the picture did not come out that good...

Excuse me while I bang my head against the wall for a few minutes....

First of all, NEVER DEPEND OR EVEN BELIEVE ANYTHING A "COACH REP" TELLS YOU (AND THEY DON'T EVEN WORK FOR COACH, BTW, THEY'RE A CONTRACTED CUSTOMER SERVICE COMPANY THAT HAS NO TRAINING WHATSOEVER IN COACH NAMES, NUMBERS, OR AUTHENTICITY!!!)

The idiot you talked to may be able to tell you when your recent order is going to be shipped but if you want VALID information on Coach styles you'd have better luck asking tthe garbageman.

The year code on the bag is for 1996, the style number is for a Willis Bag that was first made IN 1993 and is STILL being made!

Sorry to shout but I get absolutely FURIOUS when the hired help who know NOTHING about Coach give out such utterly WRONG information. Please don't EVER call them again with that kind of question, or believe anyone else who says "I called Coach and they said... BLAH BLAH BLAH" because whatever they were told is 95 percent sure to be complete and utter BS.

I suugest you read the Salearea Guides about Coach especially the ones on Serial numbers and creeds if you want ACCURATE information.

We need to pictures of the rest of your bag, but there's nothing inhererantly fake about a Costa Rica creed. Next time ask here first instead of wasting your time calling Coach. You also may want to read what I wrote about "authenticating" bags by phone or at a Coach store:
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Authenticity-Guides-Facts-and-Myths/10000000062607882/g.html

Please photograph a 3/4 view of the front and side of the bag. and a straight-on view of the front with the camera at the same level as the bag.

We need to give poor Hyacinth a strong drink to calm her down. (We all get frustrated and emotional when we read posts with such absolutely no-basis-in-fact information given out by Coach.)

In fact, the year code on the Willis you asked about is 1998. (I'm sure Hyacinth's typo was simply a result of her shaking hands as she typed with her rising blood pressure.)
:roflmfao:

Please wait for other opinions to confirm mine.

I see nothing that indicates that the bag is fake and I tend to think it might be a "mistake" in which Coach failed to stamp the serial number. The hardware, buckles, straps, lining and stamping of the creed are all correct for the style.

Thank you so much for your response! I am excited to start restoring and think I may be hooked. Been trolling ebay for some other vintage bags to practice with before I dive into this one. So glad I found this forum!
"Hooked" is the nice way to say it. If you find you like rehabbing, be very very afraid.

Before too long you'll find yourself trolling eBay late into the night looking for newly listed BINs and poorly listed treasures, comparing sniping services and apologizing to your mailman for all the Priority Mail packages.

It's a dark dark place, but there is plenty of company.

I agree with BeenBurned. Nothing seems to be wrong except the missing serial, and if the bag was destined for the Outlets anyway they may have just ignored that.

Umm... That is exactly what I was doing while stuck on a long boring conference call today. I posted an earlier request to authenticate this bag (and tell me what the style is...) but I didn't hear anything in time, so I just bought it. Such a good price. Hope it is authentic!?! Thoughts from you fabulous Coach enablers?
