My main concerns were the numbers, zipper, and the uneven stitching as well as some additional glue in some areas where only stitching is supposed to hold the leather together. There are just a lot things in a single bag that make it suspicious at least. If it is real it must be a rarity with so many "special features". Really hoping its real!!

Do you happen to have a name for this bag? I have added more pictures to the album. Thanks for your expertise, Hyacinth!

So far I don't see any problems with it. Older Coach bags sometimes had an extra number in the serial. And the brand of zipper doesn't mean anything.

Read these carefully and then post back telling us what you think the problems are - and I STRONGLY suggest that you DON'T contact the seller just yet:
http://search.reviews.ebay.com/memb...&pr=salearea&uaid=41262657&uan=salearea&uqt=g

Meanwhile please post the measurements of the bag and photos of the side and back, also a photo of the entire bag with the front flap lifted up out of the way so we can see if there's any kind of front pocket.

And as required in the first post of this thread, please post a link to the auction where you bought it.

It looks to me like it might have been repaired. The uneven stitching may have been put in later in a home repair.

Item: Vintage Coach Stewardess Alaska Airlines Handbag Purse Messenger
Listing number:251250881006
Seller: kodysnana6

Comments:I feel that this one looks VERY fake. The seller also says that it apparently has Alaska Airlines in place of the Coach Creed? I don't even know what that means.
It isn't a Coach. Seller is in violation of ebay policies by using a brand name other than that of item.

BTW, it isn't even a copy of a stewardess bag. It is closer to a Willis. The seller doesn't know what she is talking about.

The description says that it might be a Michael Green purse. They are known for having similar looking bags.

I think it might be a Michael Green. Coach never has that kind of stitching above the turnlock. The seller is still in violation of ebay policy. You can report the listing for Listing practices, search and browse manipulation, misusing a brand name.

Some areas in Coach bags are glued as well as stitched. Zipper brands including YKK have absolutely nothing to do with authenticity. And if you actually read those Guides you should have read about the extra number in some serials.

"Up until the end of the 1990s, the serial numbers were mostly hand-stamped using a mechanism that allowed the operator to change numbers quickly, and often in early Coaches you can see the top or bottom of the next number in line above or below the actual serial number. And rarely the dash between the two halves was skipped over and a string of 8 numbers would be stamped. Neither of these production glitches means that the bag is a fake..."

As for the zipper - read my Signature, it's in Purple under all 13,700-plus of my posts. And you may want to read this again:

From the front pocket and measurements it's a Compartment Bag from the late 1980s, style number 9850.

ALWAYS check here before assuming you've been sold a fake and accusing a seller of violating Ebay policy and Federal law. And stop believing the misinformation and just plain lies found in almost all online "Authenticity Guides" about Coach, the Salearea Guides being one of the few exceptions. The other ones aren't worth the electrons it takes to display them. Save the URL for the Salearea Guides for future reference.
