Thanks for the link. I know the most important things about the numbers. But I am not familiar with the exact years for most styles, especially the newer styles. I would consider the Legacy East a newer styleI have seen a few fakes where a bag seemed fine but the year wasn't right.
I consider it "newer" too but to me that means almost anything made after production moved to China. But it's still leather, so I give it a little break.

Luckily, a lot of fakes can be spotted by discrepancies in year codes, especially any and all Signature C bags that show a code from before 2000 which is when that pattern was first produced - any single-number year code from *4*- up to and including *9*- with Sig or any other type of C pattern is ALWAYS fake. There are many fakes that show incorrect codes but that's the easiest one to spot and it's a solid red flag that the item is fake
You have to be careful with year codes, especially in making sure that it's a bag from 1994 or newer so it actually HAS a year code, and remembering that the 2-number year codes such as *04*- or *11**- didn't start until 2004. Sometimes too we don't remember exactly what year a bag came out or when we bought it. If you examine many auctions the seller can be years or even a decade off when they're guesstimating when they actually bought the item.
And of course Coach doesn't help by stretching out a bag's production cycle in order to sell it or a modified version at the Factory stores. Trying to remember when something was actually made or sold can be tricky and you should never rely on just your memory, even if it's pretty firm like "my mom gave that to me for my 21st birthday" or "that was my divorce gift to myself", that sort of thing.
