I purchased this bag from a local woman via a Facebook group that is like a local garage sale. She told me it was purchased from the local Coach store, and that it was a baby (diaper) bag. I'm starting to have serious doubts about the authenticity.

1. The creed is not clearly printed.
2. The exterior of the bag is black leather and the interior is light purple with no signature pattern. Isn't a leather bag supposed to have signature pattern material on the inside?
3. I don't think this could be a baby bag because there are no bottle pockets on the sides.

On the plus side:

1. It has a fob that looks fairly authentic. (Yes, could have been switched from another bag)
2. The buckle hardware is stamped with "Coach" and looks just like the authentic ones do.

I've just located bags almost identical to this on ebay in several colors. Here is one of the auctions: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...mVlQgtr5GLbFgHGEzMgic%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
The only difference is that my bag does not have the flaps across the center with the zipper. My bag has two main compartments inside the bag that close with magnetic buttons, and in between those is a smaller compartment that zips closed.

What do you think? If you need more pics I'd be happy to take them, just tell me what you need to see.

The comparison listing you posted is authentic and the pictures you posted show that you got an authentic soho bag.

Please post a picture of the view of your bag from the top. Is it possible that the zippered flaps were removed for some reason?

Note that some leather bags have signature lining, some leather bags have lozenge lining, some leather bags have legacy striped lining, and some have solid color lining.

The solid lavender lining is correct for a black style 12303.

ETA: The bag isn't intended to be a diaper bag (often called multi function by Coach) or a computer bag because it doesn't have the changing pad or accessory pockets.

If someone cut out the top then they did a very good job. I can't see anything to show evidence of that. Here is a picture of the inside. There is a zippered pocket in the middle that separates the purse front and back.

AHa!! I figured out the non-problem!!

The bag you're comparing to is style 12302. I think we both looked too quickly at the creed on the comp listing and either misread it or didn't look carefully enough. That bag is a tote and has the zipper top.

Your bag is 12303. That style doesn't have the zipper.

Here are a couple of other 12302 listings.

There's nothing to indicate that your bag is fake. It's just a different style than the one you're comparing to.

Thanks Hyacinth - I knew better - I e-mailed her asking for the color and she stated silver. When calling Coach, they stated the bag never came with that option. So, I e-mailed her that I don't think it was real and her response was "it's a nice bag, I had the bag authenticated in Seattle at a Coach store, use and enjoy it". She bought the bag in ebay a few years ago. I told her if it's not authentic, that I will do no such thing. How do I go about proving it's not authentic other than this forum. I do have a Coach store nearby (a retail store), but as we know, it depends on who we ask...UGH, it was only $60 but what do I do now? Do I send it to Coach? Do I open a case on ebay? I haven't even gotten the bag yet- geesh
1. I seriously doubt she "had the bag authenticated in Seattle at a Coach store" because Coach stores don't authenticate and even if they did, they wouldn't know or recognize a 17-year old bag. (Sheesh, the employees were probably in diapers when the bag was supposedly made.)

2. It's her responsibility as a seller to authenticate items prior to listing them and clearly, having listed and sold a fake, she didn't do that.

What I'd suggest is to refer her here so if she has questions, they can be addressed. If she's an honest seller, she'll give you a refund without your having to open a dispute. A dispute will ding her ebay account and she also might find herself unable to list designer items in the future. Additionally, in cases of fake items, paypal is apt to rule in your favor anyway, further freezing her funds in her paypal account.

Give her a chance to do the right thing (i.e., refund) and if she refuses, file SNAD.

Thanks BB, I called Ebay and they suggested taking into a Coach store, yes, they probably were in diapers when the bag came out, but....the rep said if they take the bag, which they will, I just need to get a paper or something stating why they're taking it and then come back to Ebay with this. This is all because I was quick to jump the gun....never again, thanks for everything.

BTW- over the phone with Coach, his exact words were "We can't authenticate over the phone but based on what I told you (the bag never came with a nickel option) and what you told me (the 1995 creed), you can make a conclusion." DARN IT...I know ebay will refund my money, but I hate this hassle...

You're right! I had googled 12303 and it popped up with this auction. The picture matched the outside, and I didn't double check the number on the auction. Thanks so much!

You're welcome. I still suggest letting the seller see this post and know her bag is fake. It might save you both the hassle of the return, dispute, account ding, etc.

And she should know that she won't be allowed to relist it after you return it.

The hardware looks like it's silver-color but the seller's photos are too poor to see actual colors or details. What is the actual color of the hardware?

If you'd like to take clear close large photos of the hardware, strap ends and the entire top of the pocket the creed is stamped in, we can take a look, but nothing can be authenticated from the seller's photos.

BeenBurned has already told you how to best handle it - and BTW, NEVER take a Coach, especially an older one, to a Coach store for "authentication", 99 percent of current employees wouldn't recognise a fake if their lives depended on it.

The person you talked to at Coach IS correct about that bag never being available with silver hardware, in fact Coach didn't make that hardware color available on handbags until at least three years after the bag was supposedly made. That the seller said she bought it on Ebay doesn't surprise me at all.

Hi to everyone :smile1:, first time I am posting here, do pardon me if I have not done it correctly. I hope someone can help to comment on the authenticity of the following coach bag that I am looking at:

Item: Madison Op Art Metallic Outline Maggie 18765
Listing number: 18765
Seller: Groupon
Link: http://www.groupon.sg/deals/shoppin...16020490?nlp=&CID=SG_CRM_1_0_0_96&a=715828071

Comments: I have seen similar model in coach boutique and notice that the fabric has small cursive "Coach" signature printed within a few of the C patterns (like the one shown faintly on the Madison Op Art Sateen Sophia 18650 in the same link) but the Maggie shown in this link do not have such signatures, is it still authentic? If yes, why do some similar models have such prints while others do not have? Please enlighten me, thank you in advance to any response and advice! Regards, Joseph.

Posting from a new phone, hopefully this works without drama :: crossing fingers ::

This bag is an estate sale rescue, have never seen this style before, hardware & construction look/feel like a good bag, but so different from any Coaches I know, and creed has no clues on style number.

Item: Pebbled White lthr w tan trim, brass hdw, sewn in creed, no style number. Lined. Made United States.
In my possession.
Approx Size: 9" L x 7" H x 3.5", strap drop 22-23ish.

Help with auth & identity / era much appreciated...
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to tpf!

I don't recommend that Groupon seller. Based on the description stating that you can purchase seemingly unlimited quantities, that's a huge red flag. Coach is very strict about limiting quantities that customers can purchase because they not only discourage but they hate resellers.

The pictures in the advertisement, whether authentic or not, I don't know but even if they use pictures of genuine bags, that isn't necessarily what you'll receive.

I have a link here for a Coach bag I might be interested in if you think it is real. I have asked the seller for a close up of the creed but I thought I would post this now to see what you think. What would the color be?
Thanks so much for your help once again!
