Hyacinth, thank you, I have read those eBay reviews several times, I think it may take another 50 times of reading it for all the information to sink in. That is an awful lot to process; for me anyway. I have made that guide as one of my apps so I will make it a point of rereading it when I question these bags before I post for authentication.

My, and, concern isn't really the correct term, but, my question was that of wondering why the serial numbers were different on this scooter compared to my others. Not what I have seen, which has been the #'s 9893 on the creed.
And the only reason this even matters is that I am renewing them, adding colorful FOB's and giving a few as gifts. Id be sooo embarrassed if I was giving a bag that was not authentic. I guess later at nigts I rush to post and do not explain myself...sorry, and Thank You for your reply.

Do you mean because the numbers are different? Or what part of the creeds are you referring to?

You may want to read these:

and

If after reading them you want to talk about why you're concerned, no problem.

Just remember, any genuine item with a serial number that's ALL NUMBERS was made before 1994 and each number is unique and should never be duplicated.

ok, so your saying that some of these scooter bags were made prior to 1994 so they may have all numbers, and the numbers, as printed on the bag, cannot be duplicated or should not be duplicated as printed?

And (I may be confusing myself her) if the fist 3 numbers on the creed patch of these scooter bags can? or Cannot have a combination of numbers and letters? such as (example only) < J8Y 7534 < is that also acceptable or a possibility?

Only bags made in 1994 or later will have a combination of nunbers and letter in the first half (the last digit can be either one). All-number serial numbers should never be duplicated, those that we've found in more than one bag can safely be assumed to be fake. Some of the most common fake and sometimes-fake serial numbers are listed in 3 consecutive posts starting here:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-sh...enticity-questions-94198-37.html#post18503288

The number you used is probably a bad example. J8Y- has shown up on some genuine bags but also on some fakes.

She told me she took it down until she can check the number. She is traveling right now.

She messaged me and said "The bag was cleaned with saddle soap and then leather cleaner. It was polished (not dyed)."

So I'm kind of iffy on it now...but will wait and see what other pictures she sends me when she gets back and can take the pictures.

Item: Black Twill Tote (5117, made in China in 2000)
Seller: Goodwill ($36 after discount)
Dimensions: 17” wide, 12” high, and 4” deep

Comments: Please authenticate and let me know if you need any additional pictures, thanks.

I've found two 5117 bags listed on ebay under different names (see below, NMAs). Do you know the actual name of this bag?

One of the auctions states that it retailed at $378, does that sound correct? My bag doesn’t have a hangtag and I don’t see one in pics from either of the auctions; do you know if it is supposed to have one, and if so, what did it look like?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

It was called a Mercer Computer Tote. The hangtag was probably either black leather or a small nickel one, I can't find any clear pictures.

The price in early Fall 2000 was about $258. Sorry about the poor quality photo.

Are you the winner?

The pictures are awful so I can't even tell what the style looks like. I'm not familiar with the style. We need to see the full creed including the serial number.

If you're the winner, it would be helpful to see pictures of the bag, stuffed and standing upright, both front, back and side.
