Comments: Can one of the experts please weigh on on authenticity and possible year? Thank you!

It was made in June of 1999. But I don't see anything showing when she bought it, just an outlet stamp. It looks authentic to me.

(ETA - never mind, I just saw your answer to BeenBurned about when she bought it. It's possible but there's no way to prove it, and it's still a 1999 year code.)

So I won this auction but have found out immediately after bidding, that the seller has put polish on the bag. FYI, she doesn't appear very knowledgeable about bags or Coach because she doesn't know anything about the creeds or year made, and thinks that this bag is not vintage because Coach still makes this style. So after the auction, she just told me via email that she has put "high quality shoe polish" on the bag and I immediately asked her if she meant clear conditioner or actual colored shoe polish, and she said she's used both on this bag, which might explain the color variations I was seeing on the bottom, since she said she's only put polish on specific areas where she saw scuffs or scratches. What are your thoughts knowing it's been shoe polished. I'm torn, I want a Patricia in this color but the thought of it being shoe polished revolts me for some reason. She's asked me what I want to do and I've said I'll let her know later today but I'm feeling like this was too good to be true...ack.

You do NOT want a bag with shoe polish on it! The seller should have disclosed that she "altered" the bag from it's original state.

That style comes up all the time and Mahogany is not a difficult color to find. Save a search on ebay and you'll find one.

Wait for other opinions, but the auction is misleading to say the least.

I would back out of this sale. Seller wasn't up front about altering the bag, then waits til you win the auction to tell you she put shoe polish on it?! I would never buy a bag that had shoe polish put on it. Just my 2 cents.:smile1:

Thanks for the clarification as I wasn't completely sure about that when reading the eBay guide. May I ask one more question, more for educational purposes - This particular bag looks in almost unused condition, however there are a few imperfections that seem out of the norm for a Coach new bag - for instance, there is a ding on the inside slip pocket, and a couple of lines that are more noticeable than normal markings, as well as some irregular coloring on the bottom. When Coach made bags specifically for the Factory Outlets, was it because those pieces of leather has some markings on them that deemed them 'seconds'? Just curious. Thanks!

The irregular color ing may be due to poor storage, sun exposure, or just a piece of leather that took dye differently in certain areas. Marks or impressions in the leather can be natural or from storage, Coach doesnt discard pieces of leather because of natural markings unless they affect the look or durability of the leather. And a 13-year old bag will probably have some storage marks and creases no matter how infrequently it's supposed to have been used.

Good grief.

I agree, cancel the sale. Shoe polish is one of the LAST things you want on a bag. It SHOULD revolt you.

I could accept a professional touch-up with a good PERMANENT leather dye but all shoe polish is is temporary color, wax and silicon, all of which is going to wear off, probably on your clothes or your car seat especially if that area gets wet.

If she didn't disclose what she did, she's probably lying about or "forgetting" other things too. Good thing you found out in time - undisclosed shoe-polishing for most posters here is valid grounds for a SNAD claim against the seller - ask NoShoePolish next time she comes around.

I have asked for a better pic of the Creed also.

Thanks very much in advance!

Did you notice the water stain in the last photo in the seller's listing (2nd photo posted here)? It doesn't look like she mentioned it in her description. It's NOT due to the "dye process" as she says since AFAIK, Vachetta leather is un-dyed. Hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I don't have many Vachetta accessories.

You are absolutely right about the stain. I thought I would give it a try for the price. I have several LV All Vachetta bags and you are right that vachetta is untreated and not dyed. I have a "recipe" from docride the resident leather experrt over on the Hermes thread for protecting the untreated saddle leathers with Blackrocks and Obenaufs and so far it has worked even in a rainstorm. The seller also just emailed me the pic of the Creed which has the bullet on it...is that ever faked?

Here's the listing:

Just for the record, I wish she used a description with better font color/background contrast because it was a PITA to read.

She does say this in the description, but doesn't specifically describe it was "water marks."

This is a Limited Edition Bag and as stated it will have a patina over time. There is a small darker area, as pictured, that will come with normal wear. There are similar areas on the other side. None of the areas I mention are very noticeable but thought I would mention it because this is normal for this type of leather. Also, there is an area next to the Coach label on the side exterior where the dye process appeared to have an odd area, see picture. Please let me know if you have ANY questions. I will be happy to e-mail as many pictures or videos you might want. Just send me your e-mail address, first.

Outlet bullets have been faked, though it's probably not the case here. But in order to authenticate, we need to see the creed.

I do! I have a few, all with different keywords that someone might use. I wish Bonz had a saved search feature.
They do have a saved search feature.

Type in the various keywords you want to search. On the upper right, under the search box, there's a "get alerts" link.
