What say you???

Looks good - congratulations!

Thank you...I will post a pic of all 4 when and "if" I get this one. It has been such a LONG hunt I'm rather "dubious" if it will show up and "Murphy" intervene somehow LOL!!!

Comments: I have a concern about the serial number. It seems to have odd stamping marks above and below that I don't see on the Legacy Zips that I own. I'm hoping that you experts can tell me about them and whether they make this bag a suspected fake.

Thanks so much in advance.

Okay, I just found the following on an eBay guide about fakes, and even though the bag in question doesn't have the suspect numbers, the guide mentions "overstamping":

"0444-317, 0444-316 AND 0444-315 and possibly others beginning with 0444 - some "classic" fakes are showing up with these numbers and have a number of mistakes in the creed stamps and on the bags themselves. Assume they're all fake.
Any 'classic' leather bags with the # 0444-31(X) and heavy horizontal lines both above and below the numbers is fake.
0212-578 and 1212-578 with and without the same fake "Overstamping" lines have also recently shown up"

Any thoughts about this red Legacy Zip would be much appreciated. And Hyacinth, if you see this, I did take your advice about a saved search for specific colors. :smile1:

Most "overstamping" lines are on genuine bags, like the red one in that listing which looks genuine to me. Although a few suspected fakes have also had real-looking overstamping lines, the ones I mentioned are connected with the fake serial numbers I mentioned, and all the lines are straight or similar and wouldn't be if the stampings were genuine unless the numbers before and after the serial numbers in the stamping sequence all had those style tops and bases.

The most obvious fake overstamping lines look like the picture below.

More pics of the navy city bag, thanks again! I was a little concerned by the “X” in the creed. I’ve never had any bags from the DR so I don’t know what to expect, but again – it was only $3! Thank you!

I have X listed in my files as a possible code for some DR-made bags. I think it's genuine.

Hyacinth, thanks so much.

I have two questions, though: If you look closely at the serial number on the red Legacy, you'll see that there does not appear to be a hyphen before the style number, although there is the overstamping. Is that okay?

Also, I was especially concerned about this bag because I did some research and saw some of your posts warning about classic bags in colors other than the conservative black, brown, navy, and I think green. So the red plus the overstamping and lack of a hyphen added up for me.

You do, however, think that this bag is the real deal?

Thanks DemRam,
The first bag will have to go.. I never thought of shoe polish though I've been reading about it many times. I have bought bags before on ebay but i have not done so for the past few years. My ebay skill is sadly lacking. LOL. Still looking to purchase my first coach bag on ebay :)

As for the second bag, the seller sent me a few pictures of the scratches. She also include a clearer picture of the creed. Do you think the scratches can be minimised with leather conditioner?

I think it looks ok.

It's actually called a Girlie Hair Calf Hobo, from 2001, and it's genuine. I hope you noticed the wear on the back? The photo may make it look worse than it is, but there's quite a bit of calf hair missing.
Thank you for the very quick response. Yes there is 'hair wear' spots on the back, the lighting make them seem much worse than they are 'in person' but noted.

Thank you again!

Hyacinth, thanks so much.

Some creeds skipped the hyphen. Not a problem.

Red is actually a pretty common color on older Coaches. It's shades like Orange, teal, and other light or bright colors that take some extra examination. And some years Coach used a lot of colors, both pastels and primatry colors, on their bags. Every season was different. Again, overstamping by itself isn't a problem. It's when the lines or marks don't fit the numbers that would have been above or below the stamped serial number digits that they become a problem.

First you have done nothing wrong, in fact you did everything right. You bent over backward to serve your customer, even questioning your judgement on your product once sold and shipped. Turns out your were right and it was authentic.

You already agreed to have it returned and refund your customer, you should have no problem selling it again, nice purse. You now have more information as well.

I strongly recommend reporting guru baby to eBay support. That is your right as a buyer. Who know how many times this individual has pulled this before. They can pulled their activity and communications and check to see how many times sellers have been 'bullied' by this person for a return. Then they can watch to see if they go out and buy another similar purse as well.

Be certain to tell them the whole story, how you authenticated it, how you were 'threatened' into accepting a return, etc.

Also make certain that your eBay fees are credited on your account since you are accepting a return on this, for the whole shabang. This person may be on a watch list for suspicious activity, or this will put them on one.

You do not need to be treated like this in the process of conducting business, period. You did nothing wrong, the buyer was completely wrong and if you had this information prior to accepting the return in writing you could simply have refused (unless your policy allows for returns).

I'm so glad you were able to authenticate your bag. Good for you for following through completely with this.

So that's my two cents.
Hi rebelbabe - thanks so much for your two cents!

Such an unpleasant transaction, and I'm so glad it is over with...just makes me feel like taking a shower! Just to update anyone interested, I received the purse back yesterday, and was so nervous that I would open the box and see a REAL FAKE - LOL! I was relieved that it was the original, so I refunded her money in full. Seriously thought about taking Hyacinth's suggestion and not refund her original shipping, but after getting feedback about this in eBay's "Answer Center", I felt it was the right thing to do and keep my profile intact, although I haven't received positive feedback from her as she stated she would in her email. I won't pursue it either....I just want to put this behind me. I also sent GURU534 a "Cancel Transaction" claim so that I could recoup my Final Value fees. She agreed to it (I quote "Thank you so much") and I've relisted the bag with a few corrections to the listing description (Style # in the body of description), name, and release date. Thank you to Hyacinth for providing that information. I didn't know that eBay advises Buyers to receive their refund before they agree to a cancellation claim. I read that after I sent the cancellation claim, and so I issued the refund and held my breath that she would actually agree to cancel. I thought it would be her parting shot, in light of me exposing her here on TPF. I've learned a lot from this experience though about how to handle something like this in the future. So, it was a big lesson learned for me. I truly believe she "knows in her heart" that "I'm on to her" and that she is mistaken about the authenticity...if it was ever truly in question. So, hopefully this is the end of the saga...LOL...thanks for all your help ladies!!

Thanks so much. I am glad that it is authentic. I think the starting price is very high, so I'll have to consider that when deciding to whether I'll go for it.

It looks ok, a Whitney Top Handle from 1999.

Coach can come back around with this purse any time. This is beautiful, classic, butter soft, nice lines. Its one of those purses you pick up a say wow, this is substantial in every way. Even though it is on the smaller side, its perfect for the office or a more conservative going out bag.

I could not find one Coach bag anywhere that looked anything like this. I had no idea what 'generation' it came from or where to start. Believe me I searched high and low, but I didn't have you. LOL

Thank you so much. No more bags for now.

You're welcome!

The pictures from the seller look fine to me, but I would wait for Hyacinth to comment to be sure.

As far as the scratches, I have had good luck lately with "Leather CPR" (pictured below). It worked much better (than Lexol or Apple Brand) on some scratches in one of my older bags.

I couldn't find it locally, but it's available on ebay, which is where I bought mine.

Good luck!

:smile1:

I think it looks ok.

Thank you so much DemRam and Hyacinth. Leather CPR is not available in my country and I found one on ebay last night ( my time). I hope i win the purse but if I don't, I still have a few classic coach bags I bought locally that could use some leather CPR. Before, I could only find Amway leather cleaner and conditioner here and it contains silicone which I didn't know was not advisable to use on leather bags until I frequented this thread. I've stopped using it since. Thank you so much DemRam for the suggestion. I appreaciate it very much ;)
