It is a vintage Madison Satchel. Googling the serial number is worthless because it is an actual serial number.

It looks fine.

I take that back. I just checked it and the tabs on the side are wrong for a Madison. Wait for someone else to come along. It may be fake. It should have rings for a shoulder strap too.

I think "noshoepolish" was correct in her first response that it IS a "Madison Satchel". The Madison Satchels that I've seen don't have hardware on each end for a strap. IF there was a strap, it attached on the handle hardware like the one below.

That's because vintage bags don't include style numbers. Please read my post about the subject at the "Answers..." thread:

It's a genuine Madison Satchel - Coach never called it either a Boston Bag OR a Speedy - and the style # is 9725. And it's NOT "Bonnie Cashin Era" either, it's from the mid to late 1980s.

ETA - The SMALLER version of the Madisons didn't have any strap attachments - the included long strap on the larger style had end-mounted hardware at least by 1989. Here's Coach's photo from 1987, the second photo shows both versions from 1989:

Someone questioned my first response. There were a couple of issues she pointed out to me and I brought up an very vintage one I had sold a while back.

Maybe they changed the design a bit over the years?

I edited my answer several times - the new edits should cover all the possibilities.

(I have a habit of adding edits all the way up to the 15-minute limit, so always check back in case I've added something to one of my posts)

Thanks Hyacinth. That clears it up. I was doubting myself. I am glad you have a great reference system!

The handles and everything else looked right to me. Then I was questioned and had to backtrack.

Looks fine.

Is this Coach Signature Multicolor authentic?

I was fairly certain it was, but wanted to make sure. More and more, I have a nagging feeling it's not. There are a couple things I thought were a little off. I felt like the stitching on the Coach tag was maybe *slightly* off but maybe it's my imagination? I also feel like the bag slouches too much. Shouldn't a real Coach be a little stiffer?

Also, the hardware squeaks where it meets the leather.

Here are some pictures. I DO think if it's fake, it's a pretty darn good one. Would love opinions! And if you need different pictures or more angles, let me know. Thanks!

This link should bring you to five or six pictures.
