Greetings, ladies.

Item Name : Coach Brown Duffle
Item #: 190571127066
Link : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...6&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123#ht_500wt_1413
Comments: The item listing has ended, but the seller is still communicating with me. It looks like it would definitely be a rehab project, but I like the lines...If it's authentic, and I suspect it is after your lessons!, can you bracket a year/model name?

And a closeup of the creed:

It seems to be a genuine Small Duffle Bag from 1998.

Any help with authenticity of these Coach bags that I have purchased in the past is greatly appreciated :) Thank you in advance!

1. Item Name : 61B-8751 - Not sure of the name of the bag
Link : http://vintagelovegirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/cinch-bag.html
Comments: Says Made in USA on the bottom. Did bags ever say "made in USA" or has it always been "United States"?
2. indicates made in 2001. Should the country of origin be stated in the creed and did not on the bottom of the creed?

2. Item Name:City Bag
Link:http://vintagelovegirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/city-bag.html
Comments: Is the lettering funky? Also, says Made in the United States but the letter is M.

3. Item Name: Sonoma Style (not sure which Sonoma)
Link: http://vintagelovegirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/sonoma.html
Comments: The first letter is an M but that's The 13th letter which doesn't correspond to any month.

4. Item Name: Crescent Bag
Link: http://vintagelovegirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/crescent.html
Comments: This bag has a hyphen after the No. Is this ok?

5. Item Name: Quincy Bag
Link: http://vintagelovegirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/quincey-bag.html
Comments: Zip pocket on front rather than on the back wall of the bag.
Creed has Made in the United States on the bottom versus in the second sentence ~ (one example of a bag I have made in 1994 with the Made in United States at the creed bottom) .

I've been learning so much that it's been fun and challenging to go through all of the bags that I have. I'm hoping these are authentic but these are the bags that raised some flags for me. Thank you so much for your help!

!- The serial number probably starts with 618- , it can't be 61B, newer numbers from 1994 or later that include the style number always have to start with a letter. So it's not made in 2001 either. It's one of the Drawstring Sacs from around 1987, probably the Small if it's about 8.5 inches high. The Made in USA stamp is unusual and has shown up on fakes but also on some apparently genuine bags too.

2- It SEEMS ok, but M is one of the plant codes that turn up with different countries' creeds so it's hard to be 100 percent sure. I'd call it "probably genuine." Sometimes (a LOT of times!) it's impossible to be really sure because no one knows how often Coach broke its own rules about those plant codes or how often an item stamped for one country would actually have been made in another and the item stamped Made in The US. With Coach beating their chests so much about being an American company promoting American style, I'm sure they got a lot of criticism when they started manufacturing outside the US. This may have been one way to silence their critics. But no one who was there knows, and if they know, they ain't talking, at least not to me.

3- M is the standard code for December - my posts explain that the letter "i" as a month code was usually skipped. AGAIN, there are exceptions. It's a genuine Sonoma Drawstring.

4- Legacy Crescent, 2001. Sometimes that hyphen shows up, it's only a red flag when there's a second one actually in the number itself. The "No" isn't considered part of the serial number.

5- Don't be so concerned with where the Made In is stamped as long as it's not on the bottom in 1996 or later. Like I said, it was changed gradually over 2 years. There are almost NO cut-and-dried Rules about creed stampings. Keep repeating this until it's engraved on your brain - "the most consistent thing about Coach is its inconsistency". As for the pocket, I have NO idea where it's supposed to be. When you find something like that, the best thing is to use Ebay's Advanced Search, specify Search Titles and Descriptions, and see if you can find more like it.

Instructions for effectively using Ebay's Advanced Search are here, post 997:

Is this authentic, and any info on the age of the item? It looks a little worn, but looks cool nevertheless.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vtg-COACH-R...?pt=US_CSA_MWA_Briefcases&hash=item3a69d8a0d0

Also, in the photos, I noticed there is a strip of material (leather?) sewn into and covering entire bottom of the bag. If this is genuine, when was Coach doing this, as I haven't seen it on other pictures before.

Thank you!

It's called a Barclay Tote, style number was 9896, and it was designed to be used as either a large hangbag or as a briefcase. It dates from around 1990-1991.

Some vintage Coach bags and almost all briefcases have an extra layer of smooth leather at the bottom to reinforce the base of the bag.

Hi!

Any help that could be provided in terms of authenticating these two bags would be greatly appreciated! :) I just bought them off of ebay. I have already read all of the articles that Hyacinth linked to in one of the posts below but I am still having some trouble. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have received both bags in the mail already so if anyone needs anymore information to authenticate, please let me know!

Thank you again.

1. Item Name : Coach Court Bag, Made in the USA, K4C-9870
Link : http://www.ebay.com/itm/260838502920?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Comments: This creed has the new updated post 1994 serial number however the "Made in the United States" is still at the bottom of the creed, above the serial number, as opposed to in the second sentence of the creed. Is this ok? Upon receiving the bag, I inspected it and the leather seemed very nice, buttery and thick. No weird "stretch marks" anywhere and all the stitching and creed stamping was even and beautiful. But the Made in the US at the bottom is confusing me since it has the new style serial.

2. Item Name: Coach City Bag, Hunter Green (appears black in photos but it is hunter green), Made in the United States, 0168-931
Link: http://www.etsy.com/listing/78413636/r-e-s-e-r-v-e-d

Thank you all again!! :smile1:

I'm starting to regret ever mentioning the Made in the US stamp. My original comments about it must have been confusing.

If it's at the bottom and the bag was made BEFORE 1996, don't worry about it.

Both your bags look ok.

Sorry one more thing I forgot to mention from my previous post about the first bag, the Coach Court Bag

1. Item Name : Coach Court Bag, Made in the USA, K4C-9870
Link : http://www.ebay.com/itm/260838502920...84.m1439.l2649
Comments: The hang tag on this bag is finished leather on both sides and has "Coach" stamped into both sides. If you view the pictures at the site above, I think there is a picture of the hangtag, the other side of the hang tag looks just like the picture of the side photographed. It is not like the vintage kind where one side is unfinished.

Thank you all again in advance for your help!

Hangtags are often lost or replaced. The hangtag on a bag has no bearing on whether or not it's genuine.

And hangtag design has been constantly changed, double-sided tags were used a lot on older bags. And many older single-sided tags were just double-sided tags where the two sides had become unglued and separated.
