Yes, some counterfeiters especially the ones located in Korea used very high quality leather and were good craftsman as well. They've been making Coach and other designer name fakes for probably ay least 20 to 30 years and will probably keep right on making them.

If you have any questions afterwards I'll try to answer them. In the meantime, try to ignore most online "Guides" - very few are adequately researched and most are just Copied & Pasted from some other Guide.

No need to apologise for your long reply. You haven't tried to read my posts yet. ;)

You're welcome! BTW, the two new guides I mentioned with the last link have been posted, I don't know if you found them. They cover older Coaches and my pet peeve - Authenticity Guides. :graucho:
Hyacinth,

You stated that The "Made in the United States" should be in the body of the creed by 1996, not still on the bottom. I've been scouring your articles but cannot find the year that the "Made in the United States" went from the bottom of the creed and into the body of the creed.
Thank you!

Most of the stamps should have changed in 1994 or 1995. It seems like most plants began to change the creed wording when the serial number formatting was changed in 1994.

When you have some time, search Ebay for "Coach vintage" and look for bags from that time period. That should give you a good idea of when it changed.

Yes Hyacinth,

I did find the two new guides and thank you:)!

Hello, I just received a Madison Crimson Sophia #15921 that I won on ebay. I have never seen one of these in real life and was surprised that the color was so dark. I know how your monitor can make colors look different. I have wanted this bag ever since it came out and have viewed it hundreds of times at Coach's site as well as ebay and all over the net. I always thought it was more of a bright red, not this super deep red color I received. My BF commented that is looks more the color of "blood red" literally as dark as a drop of blood. Also the interior isn't a pale pink that I expected, it is more of a pinkish, coral color. The gal I bought this from has a 100% rating & high feedback number. I pretty sure it is authentic, but the color is nothing like I thought. It's so dark it almost looks brown? Coach has the new wine colors in some of the other styles and I thought to myself that they looked so close to the old crimson color. I have seen those IRL and the wine color is closer to what I expected with the exception of being a teeny hint towards pink. I wish I could include a pic but I don't know how to do that. Sorry. Here is the item # I won 190568385035. I haven't contacted her yet. I just got it last night. Since I never saw one in real life, I don't know what to say. Thanks

It is very difficult to photograph red bags accurately. Using the flash often makes them look brighter than IRL but they often look dark and dull if you don't use the flash.

I suggest taking it outside in the sunlight to see the true color of the bag.

I have three that still say Made in the United States on the bottom of the creed. All were made in 1994. I will check out "Coach Vintage" on Ebay as you suggested. Thank you!

May post them here for authenticity but I'll so more homework first as everything else on them looks just fine. I have some others that I'm unsure of and will post in a few minutes. Please tell me if I am posting too much. I just "discovered" this wonderful forum & may be a bit overly ambitious as far as learning, and being sure of authenticity and finding names to my "mystery Coach bags".
Again, I am so grateful for all of your help! My long queries should lighten up a lot after this morning!

Any help with authenticity of these Coach bags that I have purchased in the past is greatly appreciated :) Thank you in advance!

1. Item Name : 61B-8751 - Not sure of the name of the bag
Link : http://vintagelovegirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/cinch-bag.html
Comments: Says Made in USA on the bottom. Did bags ever say "made in USA" or has it always been "United States"?
2. indicates made in 2001. Should the country of origin be stated in the creed and did not on the bottom of the creed?

2. Item Name:City Bag
Link:http://vintagelovegirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/city-bag.html
Comments: Is the lettering funky? Also, says Made in the United States but the letter is M.

3. Item Name: Sonoma Style (not sure which Sonoma)
Link: http://vintagelovegirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/sonoma.html
Comments: The first letter is an M but that's The 13th letter which doesn't correspond to any month.

4. Item Name: Crescent Bag
Link: http://vintagelovegirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/crescent.html
Comments: This bag has a hyphen after the No. Is this ok?

5. Item Name: Quincy Bag
Link: http://vintagelovegirl.blogspot.com/2011/09/quincey-bag.html
Comments: Zip pocket on front rather than on the back wall of the bag.
Creed has Made in the United States on the bottom versus in the second sentence ~ (one example of a bag I have made in 1994 with the Made in United States at the creed bottom) .

I've been learning so much that it's been fun and challenging to go through all of the bags that I have. I'm hoping these are authentic but these are the bags that raised some flags for me. Thank you so much for your help!

That stamping is still valid for 1994. AFAIK, Coach didn't make simultaneous changes at every single plant when they changed things like creed stampings. It seems like they'd only change one or two plants at a time so that it might take several months to a year for a major change to be effective throughout all their plants.

The same process seems to have happened with their Chinese plants - some might be using a newly-designed creed stamping while others were still making do with the older stamps. Just trying to collect, photograph and log every single change to every creed stamp at every plant for the last 30 years or so would be a major project and one I probably wouldn't live long enough to finish so I'm not even going to try. :D

And never apologise for asking questions, just don't be offended if we point you to a link instead of writing a full answer. When you get a chance you should really try to read or at least skim the posts at the Answers to Authenticity Questions thread too. Start with the oldest ones but keep in mind that a lot of the older answers are already outdated and a lot of photos have disappeared. Also remember that although I try to update the Known Fake Serial Numbers thread there about twice a year, any new fake numbers we find are just posted in the thread as we find them, so it helps to check that thread about once a week for any new information.

The one thing we do ask is to not post more than 6 items per post when you're asking for authentication or identification, and ALWAYS show a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number.

Thanks!

Good, I am glad to know this about the 1994 bags :)
It sure would be impossible to collect, photograph and log all the changes to every creed stamp at every plant! It's overwhelming as it is! :) The more I find out the more I want to know! :):D

I guess I did okay then with my 5 questions here .. I think I posted 7 though for the ID section .. :( I'll know for next time :)
Thank you, I did just come across the Authenticity Questions thread this morning ~ so I will keep my eyes on that as well! Great resource, thank you!!
I am happy to have the answers whether it be direct or via a link. The links you've given me have been chock full of good information! Thank you! :)

Greetings, ladies.

Item Name : Coach Brown Duffle
Item #: 190571127066
Link : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...6&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123#ht_500wt_1413
Comments: The item listing has ended, but the seller is still communicating with me. It looks like it would definitely be a rehab project, but I like the lines...If it's authentic, and I suspect it is after your lessons!, can you bracket a year/model name?

And a closeup of the creed:

Comments: I already bought this purse thinking I was safe bc it was from a top rated seller and new with tags, but after reading a lot of posts and links I found in here, I'm worried! Please help me authenticate, as I cannot find this purse on the coach website or after extensive google searching! (I'm not very good with computers anyways!) Thanks!

PS is there anyway to look up serial numbers or a certain coach purse by style number if it is not the current season? Also, I tried to upload attachments of pics I just took but it is not working. I will add to this post if I figure it out!

The bag appears to be fine but sadly, "top rated seller" and 100% feedback do not equate to "trusted" seller. And the reverse holds too also; less than 100% feedback and non-TRS status don't necessarily indicate that you should hit the back button.

The reason why you can't find the bag on the website is because it's a MFF (made for factory) style and Coach doesn't put its outlet-only items on coach.com.

However, if you search for the style number on ebay, "coach 17587," you will find quite a few listings.

Don't assume that all are authentic because counterfeit makers can and do use legitimate and correct style numbers on fakes but it can be used as a tool to give you an idea of what the style is supposed to look like.
