Can anyone tell me the website where you change the serial number to check authenticity of coach bags?
TIA!
What you are referring to is the drilldown, which was a place on the Coach website where you could look up
some style numbers to see what they looked like.
The drilldown showed Coach's stock photos for items.
The drilldown was removed from their website for reasons known only to Coach, but there were several caveats that you needed to be aware of.
The most important thing to know about the drilldown and any style number is that even if the style matches the serial number, it does NOT prove authenticity.
1. Although helpful in getting an idea of what a style looks like, the stock photos are not necessarily identical to the item that Coach puts into production.
Often, stock pictures are prototypes and the final product might have slight variations from what the stock photo looked like.
Also, Coach sometimes purposely made the stock photo different in order to confound counterfeiters. Knowing that counterfeiters will try to make identical copies, Coach might purposely mix up colors, change color placement, use different hangtags or charms, etc. from what might show in a stock photo.
2. Just because a bag and serial number match the drilldown/stock photo, that doesn't mean that the bag is authentic. Sometimes counterfeiters get it right; they put a valid serial number that matches the bag on a fake.
3. The only thing the drilldown could prove was/is UN-authenticity. If a bag has a style number on the creed that doesn't match the style of bag, we know the bag is fake. If the serial number is one of the known fake/invalid serial numbers that Coach has never used, we know the bag is fake.
