I bought this bag at my local Goodwill tonight for $4 and wanted to make sure it's real. I don't know too much about Vintage Coach. Thanks!

Hi, I picked up a coach bag in a resale store the other day...Very sad looking on the piping, very worn, but not worn thru....It is very vintage..(love these bags, just love to clean and polish them up)..I actually own some of the originals....I'm just wondering, I don't have a pic yet, but it is like a bag you would just carry papers in...No handle and the top zippers....VERY heavy leather, suede on the inside...The inside tag says all the normal stuff, says it was made in NYC, I believe....Then there is a square imprinted in the leather and under the square it says something about the above serial number, well, there is no serial number....at first I thought maybe it wore off from age, but I can read everything else on there...What i'm wondering, is there any time that you know of, where Coach may have not added a serial number or could there have been a mistake in manufacturing it....It must have been quite a long time ago....Thanks!

Hi,

Does the creed look like mine but without the numbers? (If you click on my picture it will enlarge slightly).

There was a time in the mid to later 1970's when Coach used these "glued on" serial numbers. Many, many just fell off after a while. I've seen quite a few that just have that "blank" space.

Still an authentic bag and the serial numbers were just "random" numbers anyway. Love the New York City bags!

Hi I found this COACH bag at a community yard sale. I did some research to determine whether it is fake or real. I have come to the conclusion that it's real, I just want some opinions of other people.
Sorry for the blurry pics, it's hard for me to hold a camera with one hand and take a picture without it coming out blurry. I shake really bad I guess.

I want to add that every single piece of hardware says COACH on it even the zipper pull for the inside zipper. This bag is very well made, there are no overlaps in the leather and all the stitches are straight. There is a little bit of wear on the strap where it connects to the ring but other then that, the purse is in great shape. It looks like it has been used a lot but has really held up to wear and tear. That's what makes me think that it's authentic. It is just a very sturdy purse. I told my boyfriend's sister about it and when I told her what I paid she automatically said it was a NY Knock off.
Thanks!

I don't think this is authentic. Coach embossing on the turnlock doesn't look right and I don't think there should be an embossing on the dogclip clasp. I've never seen this design either. It's supposed to be some sort of Legacy but it doesn't feel right. Wish I could see your creed patch closer along with other pics but I'm saying Fake! Sorry, my opinion.

I thought it looked like the city bag too but, the only thing that has me wondering about it is the length of the strap because it is a lot shorter than all the other bags that I have seen that look like this.
The creed says it was made in New York so, I'm wondering if it is older than what I originally thought.
Any info would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!!

Hi,

It looks like the "City Bag" to me, which is now Style Number 9790 and still available - I think.

Definitely wait for other opinions.

My opinion only: The serial number on your bag would normally indicate mid to late 1970's through the mid to late 1980's. But it's "probably" more the 70's because of the "New York City" wording.

The City Bag should have a 44 Inch Shoulder strap, but I have seen many of the bags with longer straps that were shortened by the owner. Some were done professionally and some were just hacked off, which to me would ruin the bag.

I don't know if you are selling, but as long as your disclose the length of the strap, indicate it was altered, and that it was done correctly, I don't see a problem.
