This was the bag I was thinking about...

That's the thin double strap used on that bag...

Yes, those are the ones I've seen before that come with that thin double strap. The "Basic Bag", the Double sided Flap bags (like the white one for auction) PLUS some of the little Cashin double kiss lock evening bag styles.

The bag in your original question isn't a whole lot bigger than the Basic Bag or the double sided bag. Maybe that IS the original strap.

Just not sure.

:smile1:

I am looking at a Coach Signature Messenger Bag in canvas taupe & brown. They seem to be a dime & dozen with claims of being authentic. What pictures do I ask the seller to provide in order that the forum can authenticate? Thank you for your assistance.

We always need clear photos of the creed patch, and for starters we need to see the listing itself so we can check the seller's record.

I know this can't be real, but does anyone have some proof so they can be reported?
http://www.eturnitee.com/colelasabl.html

That site ETURNITEE.COM has been discussed before and they're known fakes sellers. There's no legitimate way of contacting them, and they use only stolen Coach stock pics so how are you going to prove they're fake until you actually receive a counterfeit? They drop-ship from China - notice the "2 to 6-week delivery time"?

The only place you can report them is Coach - they can go after them for copyright infringement.

No Serial #, so I'm a bit unsure of this, plus the dogleash clasps look odd too.
Opinions?

Hi,

The bag looks authentic to me - though I've never seen one like it before. There was a very short period of time in (I think) the mid 1970's that Coach used the creed without the numbers. I believe it was right before they started using the "glued on" numbers.

I am totally confused by that strap though. I'm not sure if it's the correct strap for that bag or not. :confused1: If it is, it's one of the oddest ones I've ever seen on a vintage Coach briefcase/bag. The zipper pull and the strap look to me like a different color than the bag. I'm wondering if the strap and the zipper pull are replacements? Then again, I could be TOTALLY wrong and it's the original strap.

I'm NO help at all. Definitely wait for others to comment on this one.

:shrugs:

I'm sure there would have been brass rings thru those openings where the dog-leash clips are inserted. I can't imagine Coach using the dog leash clip itself on that part of a bag, the clips would wear away at the leather.

It looks interesting, but I wonder how much wear and tear that leather has already gone through from those clips.

I'm not sure, but I've asked the seller if they are the original owner so I can ask more detailed questions of someone who can answer them :)

And you really need to read the Answers To Authenticity Questions forum before you even THINK about buying another "Coach" online. There are so many red flags for this one - the quality is terrible, the style of the stitching is nothing like Coach ever uses, the "leather" is plastic, the style of the inside has never been used by Coach, the stitching is a complete mess - it's just a really cheap, badly made fake and not even CLOSE to a real Coach wallet. It IS a Chinatown/Canal Street fake. We need to know where this thing is being sold so we can report it. If it's on Craigslist, please post the URL of the listing.

wow that's pretty bad stuff all around... sorry there was no link its because it was through this girl on facebook selling it (lol that sounds pretty sketchy already but i've bought stuff from other people there and it was all good)... um I'll just report it by copying what you said into their advertisement for the wallet to deter others ok...

I'm sorry I did not read the answers to authenticity questions forum, actually I took a look at it but the pics aren't working on that first post so then I stopped reading it... I'm really really sorry!

also, thankkkk you so much for posting soooooooooo quickly!!! I didn't buy it yet, i was supposed to meet her at 4pm, fat chance now!

Sorry if I sounded upset, but it's really such a bad fake that I wanted to be sure you didn't go through with the sale. And I'm sure the seller knows it's not a real Coach - shame on her for trying to stick someone else with a piece of junk like this.

There are as many crooks on Facebook and all the other social networking and auction sites as there are on Ebay, Amazon and in real life (still not as many as there are on iOffer though!), if not more. And they think that because they have an internet "relationship" with the other members, they'll be easier to cheat - like this crook who was outed in post # 443 who's selling fake Coaches to the other guys on his Performance Car forum:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-451458-29.html#post10740619

You're always better off buying from a place like Bonanzle or Ebay where you have some kind of buyer protection in case you get stuck with a fake, and you can pay through Paypal or a credit card and at least have a good chance of getting a refund if you get cheated. Handing someone you just met a handful of cash is the WORST way to buy any designer items unless you're a bona fide expert and know exactly what you're doing and what to look for.

Don't be in a rush to buy ANY designer item - take your time and ask here first before you even think of making an offer. And don't worry about losing it if you don't bid or buy right away - there are literally TENS OF THOUSANDS of Coach purses and wallets for sale on Ebay alone, and if you miss one, another one just like it will be along soon enough. And beware of anything where the price is too good to be true, or is half or less of the original Coach retail price. If something looks - or is priced - too good to be true, it usually is.

BTW, there are several pages of good posts at the Answers to Authenticity Questions forum beginning with Page 18:

and you should also check the following Ebay Buying Guides for some information on how to recognise the really obvious fakes like that wallet:
