should the first few digits of the serial number match on all bags? Trying to determine if the first one is real...the rest of the bag looks fine to me...

I would pm Hyacinth or even call Coach and ask them this one. I have no idea. I wonder if it is different 'lots' that they've manufactured over the year or something like that.

I think this is the case. I don't think the first few numbers match, but the last few should always match if it's the same style bag. BUT, get someone else's opinion too like court811 says. ;)

The first few numbers/letters don't always match, they're not always the same because there are different lots made. Those letters correspond to random stuff like which factory the bag was made in, when it was made, other stuff, etc. However obviously the last numbers should always match (this is per my manager at Coach, y'all) Hope this helps!

The first set of numbers are a combination of the year code, the plant code and I think also include the month the bag was made, so no, if they don't always match on similar bags it's not a problem. And except for the year code Coach has never disclosed exactly which digits indicate what, but the year code on items made in 2004 or later will always be two digits - 04, 05 etc.

Coach has expanded the serial numbers quite a bit just in the last two years, but for information on earlier numbers, check the Answers to Authenticity Qustions thread, post #34
