hyacinth, thank you for your thorough guides. I have read them & if I am learning correctly from you than this bag was made in June 1996 in Turkey

2 . Brown coach bag

Creed : No 0285-218

eBay listing : http://m.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-COACH...BAG-MADE-IN-USA-/262247174220?nav=WON&trxId=0

I am not sure of the name of the bag but I think it was made in the 80's.

Thank you, Christine

It's fake (and according to my records, not terrace_swing's first fake.)

I DON'T RECOMMEND TERRACE SWING - TERRACE_SWING

ETA: This listing needs to be looked at too. I'm not comfortable with it.

ETA: And another:

And the serial number font on this listing doesn't match others from the same month/year and plant:

The 9981 "Watson Bag" is definitely fake. bad month code, NOT the correct font for the B plant, and I think there's a hint of indentations on the back of the turnlock when I mouse over it. The turnlock itself looks a bit "off" too.

.I agree - " TERRACE SWING " is rotten and infested with termites.

For those interested, these are the fakes that are still viewable. I wonder how many were sold over the last several months but don't come up in the completed listings.

Correct on the first one, and it's genuine.

A bit too early on the second. Coach didn't start using the 4+3 serial number format (0285-218) until 1990. So bags with that serial format, if genuine, would have been made between 1990 and 1993. This one is a Brighton Bag, style 9895, and that style was made in the early 1990s.

HI ALL! I know there has been a lot of discussion about this bag-style 9992. I just found this in one of my boxes. Serial number reads J6C-9992-creed is pretty worn.made in USA .Please Authenticate. I'm not familiar with this style ...
Thanks so much in advance:sunshine:S.

Hi-I am new to this but have wanted one of these bags for a while. Is this an authentic saddle bag?

My eyes are really bad and I actually just can't read the creed/# or I would type it out here. Thanks so much ladies!
It looks authentic. It isn't a saddle bag or a classic pouch, which is the inspiration for the current saddle bags, nor was it made in NYC in the 70s or 80s as the seller says. You can read right on the creed that it was made in Costa Rica in the 90s (I can't quite read the year code.) It is a Fletcher bag. It was part of the Lightweights/Soho collection so the leather is thinner and lighter-weight than classic Coach bags.

That style was never called a Saddle Bag. Don't ever depend on a seller to know the right name, age, color name, style number, year of manufacture OR designer of any Coach they're selling.

This one is a Soho Fletcher Bag, style number 4150 which is clearly stamped as part of the serial number. I can't read the year code but it would have been made in the late 1990s, NOT the '70s or '80s. The color was called British TAN, not British Brown. And the seller says it was made in the USA when the creed stamp says Costa Rica. It was never called a Saddle Bag by Coach.

Coach also re-uses names over and over again. There can be as many as a dozen very different styles that all have the same name, like Madison or Chelsea - or Saddle.

Up until the present, there were only three styles I can find (not including different fabrics for the same style bags) where Coach actually used the official style name "Saddle Bag". The three styles are pictured below. Coach used the generic term "saddle bags" for bags that had the same general shape, just like they would use the term messenger bag or crossbody bag. The generic term can cover many different bags made over a long period of time with little in common except a similar shape, long strap and front flap.

There's also ANOTHER style called a Saddle Bag which is just being introduced as an homage to the older styles, but I don't think that's the one you had in mind. It's a new style and priced accordingly, there are photos posted over at the main Coach thread:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-clubhouse/2016-saddle-bag-club-921486.html

The new Saddle Bags are still available at Coach.com - notice the prices.

If you can post pictures of the EXACT style you're looking for, we can give you the official name and style number so you can search for it more effectively. But just looking for what someone is calling a "saddle bag" may lead to disappointment, especially if you have vision problems that don't let you see details clearly.

Here are styles 9851 from the early 1990s, style 9988 from the late 1990s, and style 9122 in Twill with leather trim (also available in all leather) from around 2002:

I'm seeing 1999..

Not only is it not 1970s or 80s, but it's not even vintage.
