It's a genuine Sonoma Large Hobo.

BUT - the strap drop posted in the listing is wrong. The DROP is not 30 inches, the strap LENGTH at its longest position is 30 inches. BIG difference if strap length is important to the buyer! The strap drop is usually about half the actual strap length.

Here's Coach's catalog page from 1997

Thanks for authenticating Hyacinth!

And for the info - yikes, I didn't realize that drop is not the same thing as length!
Lucky for me I thought they meant length & I'm a tiny person so I'm OK with 30".

Thanks also for the 1997 catalogue picture.
Have a good night!

Hi again!

Now my mom is leaning away from the kisslock tote and towards the saddle bag style.. Either way, I'm looking forward to a rehab project!

Item: COACH~Dark Brown-Mahogany Leather Hippie Saddle Crescent Bag Purse
Listing number: 259072340
Seller: 51Yale
Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/259072340/coachdark-brown-mahogany-leather-hippie
Comments: A bit worried about the creed...

Thanks again for your assistance!

Fake. Yes, the creed is wrong and there are problems with the turnlock hardware too.

ETA: 51yale seems a lot like some other sellers we've seen. She avoids showing pictures of the creeds and/or other details that identify her items as "questionable."

This listing needs a second set of eyes too. I can't read the creed but I see something else! *wink*

and this:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/241121...ref=shop_home_active_15&ga_search_query=coach

A seller who lists as many Coach items as 51yale had darned well learn her product!

J8P- serial number prefixes that say they were made in the USA are always fake, no exceptions.

The so-called "Metropolitan Brief" listed by seller 51Yale at Etsy is NOT a Metropolitan Brief. The front pocket and top handle are completely wrong for that style. It looks like a Lexington Brief, style 5265. I THINK it's genuine, but I'd still want to see a creed and serial number photo. Noshoepolish might want to take a look but I'm not seeing any obvious red flags. Many briefcases have been very well-faked and there's no way I'd say one way or the other without more photos.

The second listing BeenBurned mentioned might be the same briefcase. Agian, it might be ok but we need that all-important creed / serial photo.

I think Ebay causes some confusion among newer or part-time sellers when they only allow a seller to post the strap "drop" since someone just selling her unwanted bags might not know what it means. They should require the seller to measure the actual minimum and maximum strap length instead.

To measure "Drop" the bag needs to be hung from something like a clothes hook or doorknob, and the distance measured from the top of the strap's triangle straight down to the center of the top of the purse as it's hanging. The drop will usually be a bit less, maybe one or two inches less, than half of the strap's length as measured

Even if 2 different styles have the same exact strap length, drop can be different depending on the length, shape or contour of the top of the bag, and if the top of the bag slouches down when being worn. And of course, bags with adjustable straps will have more than one drop measurement depending on how long or short the strap is adjusted.

Thanks so much, BeenBurned and Hyacinth! I hadn't looked much at the saddle bag before - has it been widely faked?

Many thanks again for sharing your expertise!

i need a beautiful black wallet for an xmas present. how's this one look? thank you for the help!

Seller: stuartm42

So far, I don't see red flags but wallets are highly faked and at this time of year, men's water buffalo wallets start multiplying like rabbits.

The seller states that it's NWT and I can see the tag behind the care card in the ID window. I'd like to see both sides of that tag.

I believe it's okay.

Thank you, Whateve! I really appreciate the authentications and the style info you provided. :smile1: Too bad about #3, but I think my mom might prefer the kisslock style anyway...

Great news on the Madisons. Could you tell me how the sizes of the two styles compare? Or is the interior design the only difference?

Thanks again!
You're welcome. I think they are really similar. The red one is a little bigger. According to the catalog measurements, 4473 is 5 x 4 1/2 closed, 4474 is 5 x 3 3/4.

I think they are both good. I have no other X US plant creeds from 2000 in my files but it matches the 1999 ones.
