There's nothing that helps us prove that it's genuine except for the fact that there doesn't seem to be anything other than the creed stamp that proves it's fake either. There's always a chance that the plant simply made a mistake. And it's more likely that the Italian plant would have let a mistake like that through than it would have been for one of the US plants to do so.

Take it from someone who's both sold AND owned a ton of Italian cars, the plants screwed up a lot and weird problems slipped through. That's why mechanics who specialized in Italian cars were never short of work. I probably helped send at least a half-dozen of their kids through college. :graucho:
Hyacinth, did you see my next post with some picture comps?

BB..Here is another ad to comp the photos. This one is really dirty! One other thing I noticed..in the other photos the bags had sig print linings. This one may have..just didn't have enough light to show up.
Yikes! I love Italian cars..and shoes..but, have mostly driven German cars last 20 years or so. Reliable..which is a good thing because if they ever break down when out of warranty one must take out a second mortgage to pay for the repairs!

Nice find on the same style bags. They're helpful for comparison purposes but I still don't know whether the Italian-made bag is authentic or not.

Both those bags have text on the creeds (different from the listing in question), describing "milled pure vegetable tanned vachetta," and the lining on the listing in question is definitely NOT signature lining. The fabric texture shows in the following image:

And look at the size of the space between the stitching at the top of the patch and the Coach logo:

All of them are genuine. None of them were EVER called Speedys - Coach never used that name, and I don't think they used the term Doctor Bag officially either. The first is probably from 1990, the second and third from between 1988 and 1990, and the Baxter was made in 1992 or 1993.

You can wait for Whateve to answer your question about cleaning the handles, although I'm sure that if you search for the subject in the Rehab & Rescue thread there should be quite a few posts on the subject.

As for roominess, I've never owned both for comparison. They're almost the same dimensions but the extended top opening on the Baxter could make a big difference in how roomy the bag actually feels, just because it's much easier to get things in and out.

Thanks very much, Hyacinth! I really appreciate your help.

And yes, I've noticed that sellers often use "speedy" to describe that shape, even though that isn't what the bags were actually called. As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Ladies..Would you be so kind as to take a look at this bag? Comparing it to other bags of same era it appears to be identical. The only thing that I find a bit worrisome is the creed stamp. I realize many bags made in Italy did not have numbers but I was wondering about the time frame for this bag . All the others I found had a made in China stamp & was quite different from this one. I just found it odd this one would be made in Italy. Any light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks as always!

I am not comfortable with it at all. I would avoid it. For all of e reasons the others have given. I have sold this bag and I have carried it. This one does not pass my test.

1- ok

2 and 3- Ok, possibly from the late 1980s, at least that's where I've found it in the catalogs. I doubt if small Coach accessories were faked much back then.

It's always easier when I have a style number...

7466, Legacy Leather Pocket Hobo. The creed is still a problem.

One thing that makes me think it might not be fake is actually the creed stamp itself. Here are pics of the questionable creed, followed by several apparently genuine bags from the Italy plant. It looks like they're all exactly the same stamp, once you allow for the possibly softer leather on the questionable patch.

For instance, compare the size of the "O"s in "Coach" and "variations". They're different widths on ALL the patches including the white one. It's the SAME bleedin' creed stamp.

Pre-production bag? Pilot bag? Maybe. No way to prove it either way though.

Adding bigger pic of the white Questionable creed
