I'll bet that it's another example of that wild and crazy Italian Coach Plant E!

My theory is that they did a lot of design work there, and if the designs were changed then the prototypes and early production pieces were put into a storeroom somewhere in Italy. Later, in the mid-2000's when they were shutting down plant E, I think that they cleaned out that storeroom and shipped a lot of random prototype pieces back to Coach in the US - where they sent them to the Outlets to be sold.

I am basing this theory on the fact that the serial number on my rare Wheat Gramercy Clutch 7000 shows that it was made in Italy in 1998 and sold at the Outlet (see pics below) but when I called Coach and asked about it, I was told that the 7000 Gramercy is listed in their computer as having been released on the fictitious date of Feb 31, 2005!

I think that when they were shipping small numbers of Italian prototypes (and early production pieces) back to the US for sale, that they needed to put a release date into their computer for sales purposes, so they made up an impossible date. My guess is that the 7000 clutch had been designed first and they had started production, but it was halted, redesigned, and replaced by the smaller, more common 7007 clutch - so that's my theory! Personally, I like the design of the earlier 7000 clutch better than the final 7007 clutch, anyway!

So maybe that rare "ocelot" change purse from Italy started out having a long, thin strap but it was changed into the strapless, keyring design before production - but a few scarce, early examples of the original design made it back to the US to be sold?

Makes sense to me, or as much sense as anything else that allegedly happened at the E plant - except for infamous half-fast excuses made by other sources from other sites who still insist that employees at the E plant didn't know how to spell "NEW VORK" even though half of Italy had relatives living in NYC after the massive flood of immigration there due to Italy's crashing economy in the early 1900s. Those immigrants may have been economically devastated but they were NOT stupid.

@katev, that comment was NOT directed to you, I hope you understand that. It goes back to the previous "NEW VORK" discussions.

No offense taken, and I'm sure that they also knew that there is no such date as February 31st, too!

I really would have enjoyed an opportunity to poke around in the "Plant E storeroom of design rejects" back in the mid-2000's, because I love those Madison, Gramercy, and Bridle bags - and so many of the other unique designs that came out of glorious Coach Italy!

Hello authenticators, I recently got this Coach bag from a local auction. The bag measures 8” high by 11 1/2” wide. Can you please authenticate if it is real or not? Thank you.

I spent some time trying to find additional details on this bag and was mostly successful, though I do have a few questions. If they should be directed to another thread, please advise which.

I was able to get product specs from a 2008 TPF post where someone copied and pasted the product details from Coach's site. I know the colour is mahogany and that the bag retailed for $548. Wayback was really frustrating and yielded nothing despite attempts from different angles; the months when it was likely on the site weren't archived.

Some resellers referred to the bag as a Bleecker Legacy and others said this style was limited or special edition, which I feel the creed would reflect. As I understand, the "Legacy" some referred to was the fact that it was a Legacy Boutique item. With additional digging I learned that there were physical Legacy Boutiques as well as the section on Coach's site.

Since we have knowledgeable Bleecker fans here, my questions are:
  1. Might anyone know if she was available in other colours?
  2. Is this leather what Coach referred to as "vintage" leather during that period?
  3. Since I'm not familiar with the Legacy Boutique, was it the equivalent of online exclusives? I'm just trying to understand which products qualified for sale in that section specifically, since the pages I was able to pull from Wayback showed products from across all product lines. I like knowing things.
Thank you, as always, for sharing your time, knowledge and expertise!! You are appreciated. :ty:

So jazzed that all three bags are basically new. I will enjoy them!

I believe it is authentic. I don't believe it was a limited edition or had Legacy in the name. I've seen other bags from the same line that were limited editions and those had an extra tag underneath the creed that denoted "limited edition." I don't have a catalog page for this exact bag but other bags from the same line also came in silver, so this one may have as well. I don't think the leather was referred to as vintage leather. I'm not seeing any indication of that in catalog ads I have of other styles in this collection. I had a 2004 bag that was described as vintage leather and it wasn't the same as this.

Hi, I’m new to collecting vintage coach and am wondering if two bags I recently purchased are authentic. Black/navy bag was purchased at a thrift store and the green bag was purchased from nancyrmm9506 on Poshmark.
