Hi Authenticators! This is a PM listing which I know is problematic for some, but can anyone take a look at this cosmetic case? It arrived today and seeing it in person I realize it has some differences from other Medium Cosmetic Case #6988 that I've had. Please authenticate before I accept my order and begin cleaning it up.
Some of the differences I noticed are:
1) The PM case has a black twill type lining instead of the logo lining on the Made in China #6988 cases.
2) The PM case was made in the United States vs those #6988 cases made in China.
3) The COACH stamp on the PM case is further away from the zip top than other #6988s.
4) There is no COACH stamp on the bottom of the PM case, as there is on other #6988 cases.
5) The zipper ring on the PM case is larger than #6988 cases made in China
6) The stitching on the end tabs is further from the edges on the PM case than other #6988 cases.
7) The hangtag is larger on the PM case than on other #6899s, but I thought the original hang tag had been replaced. Now I wonder - if this is authentic, were the original hang tags larger? (hangtag photo in listing)

Several photos attached that I've taken - some showing the PM case Made in US case vs case Made in China. As always, thank you!

BUMP please. Apologies if I overlooked the response.
I recommend returning it. I don't believe it's authentic.

ETA: Let me be a bit more assertive: It's absolutely fake and you should get a refund from

Good afternoon dear authenticators! A request to authenticate please. Thank you!!!

Item: Basic bag 9455
Where purchased or how obtained: thrift store
Comments: dimensions are 7" height, 11" width, 2" depth. This bag was purchased before I joined tpf and I do not believe I had this authenticated yet. I did a search here and did not find this to be amongst my requests. I hope my sear was thorough, if not, my apologies. ETA, pardon the upside down creed. My phone seems to like flipping the creed upside down, I have no idea why.

Thank you so very much BB for chiming in. I know you strongly dislike PM and avoid input as much as possible. When I removed case from the mailer, I was immediately suspicious and then concerned that PM might "auto accept" on my behalf before an authenicator could provide input. I'm waiting for PM to get a return label to me for the return.
Interesting...now that the case has been determined to be fake, the seller wants to keep it because it belonged to her grandmother. :confused1:

So does anyone have an answer to this question about hang tags with flat topped 'A's? Thanks

There are probably tens of thousands of fake hangtags in circulation including the ones on fake bags. A hangtag can be switched on or off a bag in less than 10 seconds. When it's impossible to be sure the hangtag on a pre-owned Coach actually is the original hangtag, we never use anything so easily changed and so easily counterfeited as any kind of proof of authenticity. Anyone who does is just asking for trouble, and anyone who buys "replacement" hangtags on the open market is likely to eventually end up with some fakes. Weren't you told before you bought the bag that the hangtag was a replacement?

Only PERMANENT parts of a bag or other item are dependable indicators of authenticity, and we STRONGLY urge others to use the same caution. Some of the fakes are obvious and others are not. There were and are a LOT of fake hangtags in circulation. I never bother saving photos of every hangtag on every bag style except for very unusual examples, it's a waste of time and computer storage space.

There are seven pages of posts in these forums that mention FAKE, HANGTAG, and COACH. You might want to skim through them for comparison photos:

Yes. I agree hang tags are easily replaced. My question is if this hang tag is authentic. I have provided a very precise example of a Coach employee suggesting that the flat A is not authentic for this era of double sided hang tags is authentic and I am just waiting to hear a credible answer Thanks

And I'm pointing out that it shouldn't really make any difference from the point of view of an authenticator of pre-owned Coaches because there's no dependable way FOR ME to prove that a bag came out of the factory with that hangtag or even that the tag came out of a Coach factory at all. I'm interested in practical, dependable solutions, not intellectual discussions that don't prove anything about the bag being authenticated. No offense, but sometimes a hangtag is just an anonymous bit of leather. The bag is the star, not the hangtag.

If Debi said a flat-topped "a" means fake, her opinion is just as valid as anyone else's. it's fine with me. As long as she's not insisting that a screamingly obvious fake is a genuine Coach like some "authenticators" on other websites I've seen (and some of their mistakes are real doozies), I'll accept her opinion until and unless proven otherwise. But I'm NOT going to spend hours or days searching the internet for hangtags with flat-topped "a"s just to sate my curiosity. If I was worried about a hangtag I'd just replace it with a genuine metal one.
