Hi! When you have a chance could you please look at this bag for authenticity. Questioning the Serial number layout. Thanks!iIq8hGb6RHWGSPlfm4lqXg.jpg+imYaTDlTUWxHi4jNiK+wA.jpgCaZuSjtmTaC+MNYZhWOttg.jpgmj2OmomjSRGL7IFJTQ4NXQ.jpgUNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_64d9.jpg

Hello. I am new member. Would you please authenticate the following:

Item: Coach Beekman Briefcase Leather (Black)
Listing number: I do not see a number.
Seller: melissasmith749
Link: https://poshmark.com/listing/Coach-..._tp=em_at_cmt&em_uid=6015dcde3751f589b012dc50
Comments: Serial Number G0769-05266
Strap shoulder cushion does not have the Coach stamp.
It looks fine. I have no idea if the strap has been replaced, although it seems weird the back of the shoulder pad is suede (but probably stays in place better). This was made in 2007, much later than any examples I have. They could have changed some minor things in the design.

I believe it's genuine, made in 1997. I've seen at least one other example of a different style (also with an outlet stamp) from the same plant, month and year where the month and year codes got scrambled.

Hi whateve. Thank you so much for your analysis. I will proceed with my purchase of the briefcase. Thanks again.

Hi Authenticators. I am interested in this posting for a 1997 red Court Bag for sale. It looks pretty and the number and creed seem to check out. But the pristine condition of the bag, the smooth leather interior of the flap (aren’t they suede?), and the style of the strap clips give me pause. Perhaps it had been re-painted? Or perhaps it is not authentic?

Found on Etsy:

Many thanks, in advance!

It's authentic, made in 1997.

The strap clips are correct for the bag. She doesn't show a picture of the full interior but the bag isn't lined and the interior is the suede back of the leather. But the smooth leather you're seeing that the creed is stamped on is the pocket.

Hello

Please could i have some authentication for this bag I picked up today from a vintage shop in London.

I think it is a swinger? 70s? A Bonnie Cashin design?
I have not seen this in a catalogue before. It measures 8.5 inches high, 5.5 inches wide, approx 3 inches deep. It is navy blue.

Thanks very much in advance.

Ahh! I found one of that style at a thrift store a few years ago.

@whateve ID'ed it for me as "Double Entry Retro Swing Bag" 9002 from the 1980s.

Nice find!

Ah thanks, I was wondering if you knew where I might find a catalogue picture for this?

I thought it might be this bag? Appreciate your help.

The 8517 Swinger was an early style that was intro'd around 1976, very early versions wouldn't have had a serial number. The bag in the post may be a few years later than the very early examples. The photo that DollyO posted seems to be from the 1976 Ruff-out catalog.

The Double Entry Retro Swing Bag style 9002 was a 1991 reissue of style 8517 for Coach's 50th Anniversary. It should be in the Vintage Catalog thread in the 1991 50th Anniversary catalog scans. The creed photos in my files from those Retro bags from 1991 all seem to have a Made in the United States creed rather than the older Made in New York City U.S.A. creed.

Ah thanks very much I have found the picture but the bag I have is not the 9002.....it is 2 inches longer (roughly 8.5 inches) and very dark blue, definitely not peacock blue as shown in that picture.
Could they have made swingers in the 70s or 80s that would of had the 'Made in New York' wording like mine does? Thanks again for your help with this

FYI: From what I've seen, the design of the double entry swinger went through several iterations from its intro in the 1960s through the early 1970s. My records show style numbers 8515, 8516, and 8517, though I cannot find the supporting data since my hard drive failed a few months ago. Grrrr.

The earlier versions were indeed lined, with exposed metal kisslock frames, and the flat patterns for the leather were such that it had the side-to-side bottom seam and was flared so that it was slightly wider at the bottom. Earliest versions came with chains whereas later ones had the longer spaghetti strap. The black fabric lining was used on the last rendition of this particular style (replacing earlier striped lining, first without, then with black separating threads) and may have an outward facing cartouche imprint at the upper edge of a side panel in lieu of an interior metal tag. This would probably place its date-of-mfr somewhere late in 1972 or early 1973. The more rectangular unlinked with leather covered kisslock frame was introduced immediately afterwards (1973 is my estimate) and made throughout the remainder of the 1970s (or perhaps beyond) spanning the cartouche imprint, creed only, and creed + ###-#### periods.

I hope that is perhaps useful.
I may have found the answer from this old thread!
