Just browsing this evening and saw this...seems off (not real)...

FAKE!

308-9875 is a known and common invalid serial number.

The frustrating this (to me) is that it wouldn't have been difficult for zulala4u to verify that the bag is fake. A simple googling for the serial number would have pulled up many hits, the top one being a plagiarized version of @Hyacinth's "fake serial number" list:

Comment: Does anyone have a catalog photo available? Is this the known CR stamping error?

It's authentic and a legitimate stamping error.

I suspect the reason why you aren't getting a reply is because we can't read the creed well enough.

If you can get a better picture of the creed and serial number, possibly editing the "definitiion" or by using eye shadow or another powder on the creed, it might help.
I thought that may be the reason. I took your suggestion regarding the eye shadow, but this was not as successful as I'd hoped. Ugh. The prefix is pretty easy to read, but the 9981 appears to be almost completely worn. I can barely see it under the right lighting but could not make it visible with the eye shadow, nor photograph it well. I've attached those additional photos, and I fully understand if you're unable to make an authentication judgment. Regardless, your time and help is greatly appreciated.

Hi all~

I appreciate your help in authenticating this Coach Watson bag. The creed is very difficult to read, but I can see the J5D prefix somewhat clearly (see photos). This bag has a 26" strap drop and measures approximately 7.5" x 6" x 3". I believe I bought this at a garage sale a few years ago.

Thank you for your assistance!

BeenBurned's eyes AND computer programs are much better than mine, so maybe she'll have better luck. But the fonts used in the creeds and serial numbers are one of the most important details when I authenticate so it's still hard for me to give a 100 percent solid authentication. But I'm not seeing anything that would make me think it's fake when I look at the other details of the bag. I wouldn't recommend buying any bag for resale where it's almost impossible to see those details clearly though.

More opinions are welcome.

Thanks Hyacinth.

I've been fixating on vintage Coach for awhile, and then I saw THIS for $10. Please and thank you for an authentication opinion. My research seems to indicate it's a limited edition bag, #1494 (style number has been re-used with a more recent bag, I think).

It seems good, although there are only 2 photos in my files and neither is a creed photo. There's nothing in my notes about it being a Limited Edition. It's a Metallic Vintage Signature Satchel from 2004, so just one year to go until it actually IS vintage.

I see what I need in the #3 picture.

What I see matches other August 1995 (D plant) prefixes. I think the bag is okay.

Thank you! Here's where I got the idea. This similar #1494 item for sale has a close up of the back of the hang tag and it says: "Special Edition Fall 2004." Maybe that's different than limited edition. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283682680924
